Chapter 44: Cute Kid Meets Bear Cubs (Part 2)

After entering the house and setting down his daughter and the Bear Cubs, Liu Heming ran upstairs like he was showing off a treasure, bringing down the remaining Finger Sweet Potatoes. Knowing Sasha cared about cleanliness, he took them to the Kitchen and washed them thoroughly before placing them on a plate and presenting them to his daughter.

“Alex, this is a very tasty Sweet Potato. Try it,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

“But why are they so small?” Alex picked up a Finger Sweet Potato, looked at it for a while, and then blinked her big eyes as she asked.

“I don’t know why they’re so small either. I just bought them from someone selling them while I was driving. Give it a try—it’s really delicious,” Liu Heming replied, nearly stumped by his daughter’s question.

Alex looked at Sasha, who frowned slightly but nodded anyway. Alex then put the Finger Sweet Potato in her mouth and took a bite.

“Mmm, it’s really good—sweet and crunchy,” Alex praised after tasting it.

Once she took a bite, Xiong Da and Xiong Er couldn’t sit still. They scrambled over, plopped down on the floor, and fixed their irresistible pitiful bear eyes on Alex—more accurately, on the half-eaten Finger Sweet Potato in her hand.

“Can I feed them?” Alex glanced at the Bear Cubs, then at the plate, and finally looked at Liu Heming.

“You can feed them if you want, but each Bear Cub can only have one. These are good Sweet Potatoes. It’s a bit wasteful for them to eat too many. Once I grow more Sweet Potatoes, I can give them more,” Liu Heming said, his expression conflicted.

He knew these were good Sweet Potatoes, but if his daughter wanted to feed them, he couldn’t stop her.

Alex didn’t mind that at all. She stuffed the remaining half into her mouth, took two more from the plate, and gave one to each Bear Cub.

The Bear Kids treated them like treasures. They took the Finger Sweet Potatoes in their mouths, chewed them, and rubbed their heads against Alex’s legs.

“How did they become so well-behaved? Did you really just find them?” Sasha asked with a frown.

“When I first found them, they were almost starving. I’ve been teaching them manners these past few days. You should try one of these Sweet Potatoes too—there aren’t many left,” Liu Heming explained casually, handing her a Finger Sweet Potato.

Sasha didn’t really want to eat it, but seeing her daughter watching her, she reluctantly took the Finger Sweet Potato and took a small bite.

She had never eaten raw Sweet Potato before, but she thought this little Sweet Potato tasted pretty good. Out of politeness, she ate the remaining half as well.

“Sasha, I have a small request. Do you think Alex could stay here with me tonight? I’ve carefully checked this house, and there’s enough room for all of you to stay,” Liu Heming said somewhat awkwardly.

“Alright. Before we came here, Alex said she wanted to spend more time playing with the Bear Cubs. I just hope you adopted these Bear Cubs only to make Alex happy,” Sasha said, looking at Liu Heming seriously.

“Thank you, Sasha,” Liu Heming replied with equal sincerity.

Before, he hadn’t thought highly of Sasha at all, since she was trying to take Alex away from him. But now, not only had Sasha lent him money, she had also brought Alex to visit him. His impression of her was slowly improving.

Putting himself in her shoes, he understood: she had ended up with a child with him in a confused situation, and now that she wanted to get married, she was also afraid he would take Alex away. Now that she had compromised and postponed the wedding, he really had no reason to complain.

Alex secretly glanced over, thinking Liu Heming and Sasha weren’t paying attention to her, then took two more Finger Sweet Potatoes from the plate and slipped them into the Bear Cubs’ mouths. Her sneaky little look seemed incredibly cute to Liu Heming.

Liu Heming decided to let it go. If his daughter wanted to sneak them some treats, so be it. No matter how precious the item, it couldn’t compare to his daughter’s happiness.

The little one was quite active. The last time she visited, she had pestered Liu Heming with all sorts of questions. This time, she had two little friends, so she sat on the floor and played with the two Bear Cubs.

Liu Heming naturally didn’t miss this opportunity. He and Robin took a camera and a Mobile Phone, snapping pictures nonstop. After they finished, Robin handed him a memory card. “There are photos of Alex when she was little in here. You can take a look.”

“Thank you, Robin,” Liu Heming said, taking the memory card. The lightweight card felt as heavy as a thousand pounds to him.

“Don’t ever do anything that might hurt Alex, understand? Otherwise, I won’t let you off easily,” Robin said, looking at him.

“Don’t worry. Alex is my treasure,” Liu Heming nodded.

This time, he didn’t feel upset or think Robin was treating him unfairly. He knew Robin cared about his daughter too, especially since Robin didn’t know him well yet.

After watching his daughter play with the Bear Cubs for a while, Liu Heming got busy himself.

He needed to prepare lunch for the day. He wasn’t making anything fancy—just Dumplings. He had started preparing the filling yesterday, so the beef had plenty of time to absorb the flavors. This time, Liu Heming had also prepared a second type of filling: mushroom, chicken, and large shrimp.

He didn’t know what kind of filling his daughter liked, and it was too inconvenient to buy groceries here. Otherwise, he would have prepared even more varieties.

Seeing Liu Heming kneading the dough, Alex grew curious and led the two Bear Cubs over to the dining table.

“The vegetables in the garden haven’t grown yet. Once they’re bigger, I’ll make you lots more delicious dishes,” Liu Heming said to the little one.

“Dexter, what are you doing? Are you making pizza?” Alex asked curiously.

“Not pizza—these are Dumplings from China, and they taste really good,” Liu Heming explained with a smile.

“Are you a Chef?” Alex asked next.

“Not yet, but I’ll study hard and make you lots and lots of delicious food,” Liu Heming promised.

Alex was very happy to hear that. She sat right down on a stool and watched him make the Dumplings.

The interaction between father and daughter made Sasha frown slightly. She wondered if she had made a mistake. What if Alex became very attached to Dexter later?

But no matter how she thought about it, things were already set. For Alex’s sake, she couldn’t stop them from spending time together. Besides, postponing the wedding had also helped ease the tension with her family.
