Chapter 24: Bodyguard Robin

George’s words not only stunned Liu Heming, but even the distracted Sasha turned her attention toward him.

“Are you George? George Williams?” Sasha stared at George for a moment before asking tentatively.

“Haha, it’s me. I didn’t expect the little angel from back then has grown into a big girl, and even has her own little angel now.” George laughed heartily.

Liu Heming was utterly confused. He didn’t know how George knew Sasha, and had no idea what had happened back then. But he was smart enough not to ask about it at that moment.

This turned out well. Sasha was very friendly toward George and started chatting with him off to the side. Liu Heming felt somewhat relieved, as he could finally play with his daughter without Sasha’s supervision.

“Hey, big guy, come over here. Take some photos of me and Alex,” Liu Heming called out to the tall, gorilla-faced bodyguard he had seen during the divorce agreement process.

The bodyguard frowned but remained completely still.

“Robin, can you take photos for us? Please? I’ll give you some cake,” Alex, who was in Liu Heming’s arms, added pitifully.

Robin the bodyguard couldn’t resist that. A wide smile spread across his gorilla-like face. Liu Heming thought that smile alone could scare a child to tears. But his daughter was completely unfazed—she really was brave.

Liu Heming was quite happy. He wanted to take some photos to send to his parents so they could share in the joy. He pulled out his mobile phone from his pocket.

It was an iPhone 5, with an S, but it was still pretty good. However, the gorilla-faced bodyguard Robin glanced at it disdainfully, then hurried back to the car, rummaged around, and pulled out what looked like a high-end camera.

This annoyed Liu Heming, but he thought he should hold back. Robin’s combat skills were probably high. George was a bit chubby, but Robin could probably carry him easily, and Robin was all muscle.

It was clear that Alex loved having her photo taken. While Robin took pictures, the little girl struck poses on her own and occasionally made funny faces.

“Dexter, are those sprouting little seedlings all for me? Can I take photos with them?” Alex asked after they had been taking pictures by the lake for a while.

“Of course you can. You can take as many photos as you want,” Liu Heming said, then kissed her on the cheek.

He had been a bit unkempt these past couple of days, so his stubble had grown out, making Alex giggle from the tickling. The little girl laughed happily, while Robin glared at him repeatedly.

This gave Liu Heming a sense of accomplishment, and he proudly raised an eyebrow at Robin.

It was also clear that Robin held a high position among the bodyguards. He alone accompanied Liu Heming and his daughter back to the house, while the others stayed behind.

After spreading a blanket on the ground and placing the small trays to the side, Alex happily took photo after photo inside.

“Big… Robin, let me see how the photos turned out,” Liu Heming said to Robin after a while. He had almost called him “big gorilla” out of habit but caught himself just in time.

Robin glanced at him and, surprisingly, handed over the camera without hesitation.

Liu Heming was pleased that Robin was being so cooperative. Even if he was a nominal son-in-law, he was still a son-in-law, right? But as he flipped through the photos on the camera, his expression grew more and more displeased.

No face… no face… half a face… still no face… One after another, most of the photos showed Alex’s happy little face, while he, at best, only had half his face in the frame.

He knew the big gorilla was doing it on purpose. Robin had been at odds with him since the day they met. Now, with the photos, he was playing tricks again. But there was nothing Liu Heming could do. Robin wouldn’t listen to him, and he couldn’t win in a fight, so he had to endure it.

He took out his mobile phone again. Although it wasn’t as good as a professional camera, it could still take a few passable photos.

Alex was very interested in the seeds growing vigorously in the trays. After taking photos, she squatted beside the trays, carefully inspecting each one.

“Uncle Robin, can you bring me my colored pencils?” the little girl asked Robin after a while.

Robin didn’t hesitate for a second. He thumped down the stairs. Liu Heming was a bit worried that the stairs in his house would break under Robin’s weight.

“Alex, is Robin very good to you?” Liu Heming asked curiously.

The little girl nodded. “Uncle Robin often plays with me.”

Hearing this, Liu Heming felt a little jealous. He wasn’t as lucky as Robin, who clearly spent a lot of time playing with the little girl.

“Alex, I brought all your colored pencils,” Robin said as he stomped back upstairs and placed a large box of colored pencils in front of Alex.

“Thank you, Uncle Robin,” the little girl said politely. Liu Heming saw the gorilla-like mouth stretch into a wide grin again.

“Robin, thank you for taking care of Alex. Let’s take a few photos with her. I can see she’s very happy today,” Liu Heming said as he approached Robin.

Robin looked down at Liu Heming, judging how sincere his words were.

“Don’t worry, I’m not as petty as you. I’m her father, but I truly didn’t know she existed before. I will spend the rest of my life making up for my past shortcomings,” Liu Heming said, patting Robin’s arm.

He meant this gratitude sincerely. The little girl was very familiar with Robin, and Robin had undoubtedly brought her a lot of joy. Even if Robin looked down on him, he still wanted to express his thanks. But Robin really was quite sturdy—those two pats left Liu Heming’s hand feeling a bit numb.

Robin nodded without saying anything and walked over to Alex so Liu Heming could take their photo.

Looking through the viewfinder at Robin’s wide, beaming grin and then at his daughter’s sweet smiling face, Liu Heming felt like laughing. The contrast was truly amusing.

He took a few photos and then handed the camera back to Robin. Robin didn’t find anything funny about it; he looked at the photos and nodded with satisfaction.

“You go over there too. I’ll take a few more photos of you all, and then you can copy the photos from the memory card,” Robin said in a deep, muffled voice.

“Uh… you can talk?” Liu Heming blurted out. Seeing Robin’s eyes widen in anger, he quickly hurried back to his daughter’s side and started taking photos again.
