Chapter 106: Ordinary Days
Chapter 106: Ordinary Days
“Chen Mo, the fridge at home is almost empty. Since tomorrow is the weekend and you don’t have work, come with me to the supermarket tonight.”
Xiaoyu put down the last dish, took off her apron, sat at the dining table, and looked at Chen Mo with hopeful eyes.
“Okay.”
Chen Mo agreed right away. After the last mercenary incident, he rarely took Xiaoyu out shopping. Xiaoyu was sensible and never asked to go out.
She must have been feeling cooped up during this time. There was nothing urgent now, so going out for a walk tonight was a good idea.
After Chen Mo agreed, Xiaoyu showed a happy smile. Seeing her smile, Chen Mo felt more relaxed.
Whether in the past or now, Xiaoyu only asked him for simple things. She never demanded anything from him or used his money, which made Chen Mo feel a bit helpless.
Xiaoyu was a girl who was easily satisfied. She didn’t ask for much, just an ordinary life. Because of this, Chen Mo cared for her even more.
“Eat more.” Xiaoyu was in a good mood and kept putting food into Chen Mo’s bowl.
“Are you fattening me up like a pig?” Chen Mo laughed.
“If you say you’re a pig, I’ll take care of you. Anyway, at home, you’re almost like a pig. You only know how to eat and don’t do anything else,” Xiaoyu said playfully.
“Who says I don’t do anything? I wash the dishes, and I help dry your hair. But it’s not bad to be taken care of by a beauty, especially when she cooks so well,” Chen Mo said, nodding seriously.
Xiaoyu’s face turned red. “Hurry up and eat.”
After finishing the meal and cleaning up, Chen Mo took Xiaoyu out of the villa.
At the Commercial Plaza, Xiaoyu held onto Chen Mo’s arm and leaned close to him, wearing a sweet smile. They looked like an ordinary couple deeply in love.
“Do you want to go see a movie?” Chen Mo asked.
“No, it’s rare for us to go out. It wouldn’t be good to sit in a movie theater,” Xiaoyu said. “Let’s walk around first, and then go to the supermarket later.”
“There’s a jewelry store over there…”
“No need.”
Before Chen Mo could finish, Xiaoyu pulled him in another direction. Thinking of the last time they went to a jewelry store, Xiaoyu felt helpless.
“Other girls like jewelry. Don’t you like it?” Chen Mo asked.
“Who says I don’t like it? I do, but one is enough. No need for too many; it’s a waste of money,” Xiaoyu said.
“I have money with nowhere to spend it now,” Chen Mo said with a bitter smile.
He didn’t even know how much money was in his account. For him, money was just a number now. And all this change started when he met Xiaoyu.
“Do you want to turn me into a woman covered in jewels?” Xiaoyu said, slightly annoyed.
“Watch your words. You’re not a woman yet.”
Hearing this, Xiaoyu’s ears turned red immediately, and her cheeks felt warm. She whispered, “Fool.”
“I’ve noticed you like calling me a fool. Where am I foolish?”
“If I say you’re foolish, then you’re foolish.”
“Okay, you win,” Chen Mo surrendered at once.
Xiaoyu pulled Chen Mo along as they walked around the mall. She bought a set of clothes for Chen Mo but nothing else before heading to the supermarket.
“Today, Sister Zhao asked the Investment and Mergers Department to evaluate the value of several pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies. Is the company planning to enter the pharmaceutical market?” Xiaoyu asked while picking out products.
“We do want to enter the pharmaceutical market, but it’s rest time now. Let’s not talk about work,” Chen Mo said, pushing the shopping cart.
“Okay, we won’t talk about it.”
The two slowly walked around the supermarket. After about half an hour, Chen Mo came out carrying several large bags.
They were filled with snacks, fruits, and some daily necessities.
“I think it’s quite nice to stroll around the supermarket when there’s nothing else to do.”
“Then next time we need to buy something, I’ll let you come and do the shopping,” Xiaoyu said with a laugh.
“It’s no fun shopping alone.”
Chatting and laughing, they had just exited the supermarket when suddenly, Xiaoyu clutched her lower abdomen and frowned.
“What’s wrong?” Chen Mo immediately noticed something was off.
“Menstrual cramps,” Xiaoyu said with a bitter smile. “I never used to have them before. I don’t know why, but these past two days, I’ve been feeling occasional pain.”
“Is it serious?”
“No, it’ll be fine after some rest.”
“Probably stress-related. Rest well at home over the weekend and don’t worry about anything else. Come on, I’ll carry you back.”
Chen Mo walked in front of Xiaoyu. Xiaoyu glanced at the people around her, feeling a bit embarrassed. After hesitating for a moment, she finally climbed onto Chen Mo’s back, burying her face against him, her ears turning red.
Carrying Xiaoyu, Chen Mo felt the softness against his back. He took a deep breath, picked up the shopping bags, and walked out of the supermarket.
“Lately, I’ve been in charge of following up on a project. There’s a lot to do, plus I’m preparing for my graduation defense. In another month, I’ll have to go back to school for the thesis defense and graduation matters.”
“You’re about to graduate, and it doesn’t even feel like it,” Chen Mo said.
“For a godlike person like you, there’s no worry about failing the thesis. What would you even feel?”
Their ordinary conversation faded into the distance.
Happiness becomes precious because of its simplicity.
Over the next two days, Chen Mo took Xiaoyu to stroll around Binhai University a few times to help her relax. He didn’t want Xiaoyu to develop any hidden health issues from too much stress.
When the weekend ended, Chen Mo had just arrived at the company when Zhao Min entered his office with a file.
“Chairman, Xiaoyu seemed to be in a good mood. Did you two have fun these past couple of days?”
“It was alright.”
“Seems only us employees are the ones busy working.”
Zhao Min laughed self-deprecatingly and placed the folder in her hand on Chen Mo’s desk.
“This is the evaluation report for three pharmaceutical companies. I had the Investment and Mergers Department work over the weekend to get it.
These pharmaceutical companies have complete research teams and production lines. They’re already aligned with international standards and collaborate with many hospitals and universities both domestically and abroad, with plenty of drug sales channels. All they need is one strong new drug to succeed in production, and they could grow rapidly.”
“Okay, I’ll look over the evaluation report and give you a reply,” Chen Mo said, picking up the report and glancing at it before setting it aside.
“Is there anything else?” Zhao Min asked.
“Soon, it’ll be graduation season. After all, I came from Binhai University. In my name, donate 20 million to the school, and in the company’s name, establish an Ant Scholarship.”
The Science and Technology Library was obtained in Binhai University’s library, and that’s also where he met Xiaoyu. Without Binhai University, he wouldn’t be where he was today.
“Sure.”
Zhao Min then remembered that Chen Mo was still technically a student at Binhai University. In just over half a year, Chen Mo had reached heights others could barely achieve in a lifetime.
Now that he had achieved success, it was time to give back to his alma mater.
“Okay, that’s all for now. You can go ahead with your work. I’ll look at the evaluation report now and give you a reply after.”
“Alright.”
After Zhao Min left, Chen Mo picked up the evaluation report and opened it.
“Ink Girl.”
“Brother Mo, Ink Girl is here.” As soon as Chen Mo spoke, Ink Girl’s childish voice rang out.
“Re-evaluate the value of these companies now and give me the results,” Chen Mo said, placing the file in front of the camera.
“Okay, Brother Mo.”
