Chapter 90: Origins

Chen Mo sat in a room, staring blankly at the water cup in front of him.

He was wondering who would send people to attack him. He felt lucky that if he hadn’t hidden last night, he wouldn’t know what would have happened to him. He didn’t think he could handle two armed mercenaries at the same time.

Today, he managed to escape only by knocking the gun out of their hands when they weren’t paying attention. So far, he still didn’t know the real identities of those two men.

While Chen Mo was lost in thought, a man and a woman in plain clothes entered the room and sat down opposite him.

Pan Long and Gan Xiaorong studied Chen Mo. They had only learned today that the Chairman of Legion Ant Company was so young and still a student at Binhai University.

If they hadn’t seen Chen Mo’s file, they wouldn’t have believed any of it.

“Mr. Chen, this matter might be a bit complicated. We need your cooperation and hope you’ll tell us everything you know,” Gan Xiaorong said, speaking first.

“Go ahead,” Chen Mo replied.

“Have you offended anyone recently? Or, have you made any deals with anyone?” Pan Long asked.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve offended anyone. I don’t socialize much. There are quite a few company transactions, though. If that counts, you can ask Zhao Min at my company. I’m not involved in managing the company’s affairs,” Chen Mo said.

“Do you know these two people?” Pan Long placed two photos on the table and stared into Chen Mo’s eyes.

“They’re the two who attacked me,” Chen Mo said calmly.

“I mean before this. From what I know, they seemed to have entered your residential complex last night.”

“Two people did enter my villa last night. My villa has a warning system, so I found out early and hid. I didn’t see what they looked like, and the complex security didn’t catch them. This morning, the complex told me they were just petty thieves, so I didn’t pay much attention. Is there a problem?” Chen Mo said.

“I’m just curious, Mr. Chen. You have such good combat skills. Why would you be afraid of two petty thieves? Did you know someone was coming for you, or are you hiding something from us? I hope you’ll be completely honest. Otherwise, our investigation will be more difficult, and it could affect your safety,” Gan Xiaorong interrupted.

“I have good combat skills because I trained in sanda for a few months. If someone breaks into my villa, my first priority is the safety of my girlfriend and myself. Let petty thieves steal—there’s not much to take anyway—but I didn’t know who they were. Having good combat skills doesn’t mean I would take risks with my girlfriend.”

Both of them watched Chen Mo’s face, but his calm expression gave nothing away.

“Tell us what happened this morning. Don’t leave out any details, as this matter is quite troublesome.”

“I went out today…”

Chen Mo’s eyes remained calm as he recounted the events to both of them.

“Based on what we’ve learned, it’s very likely that someone is targeting you or your company. To avoid unnecessary panic, we’ve announced publicly that it was a fight caused by a traffic accident, and we haven’t disclosed the people involved. We still need to investigate the nature of this matter further, and we ask that you keep it confidential for now,” Pan Long said.

“Okay,” Chen Mo nodded.

“Thank you for your cooperation. If we have any more questions in the next few days, we’ll contact you directly. You’re free to go for now,” Pan Long said, putting away the recording and notes.

Chen Mo gave a slight nod, stood up, and left the room. As soon as he stepped out, he saw Zhao Min waiting for him.

“Let’s go, Chairman.”

“Where’s Wang Hai?”

Chen Mo collected his confiscated belongings from the police and looked around.

“He’s still being questioned. I’ve already had a lawyer intervene. If all goes well, he should be out soon,” Zhao Min said.

Wang Hai had shot and injured someone, so the situation was definitely more complicated. However, since the two attackers were armed, it was self-defense and shouldn’t be a major issue. After thinking it over, Chen Mo didn’t ask further.

“How is Xiaoyu?”

“She’s at the hospital. She’s awake and fine, just hit her head. She’ll be okay after resting for a couple of days. Li Ruoxi is with her now.”

“Let’s go see her at the hospital. For Wang Hai’s situation, have someone follow up and get him out as soon as possible.”

“Understood.”

Chen Mo walked out of the Public Security Bureau and got into the car first.

“What really happened? The police told me it was a car accident, but I feel it’s not that simple,” Zhao Min said as she got in after him.

“Try not to go out much recently. If you do, bring some security personnel,” Chen Mo said.

“I understand,” Zhao Min immediately grasped his meaning. “Do you know who it is?”

“Not yet,” Chen Mo said.

About fifteen minutes later, the group arrived at the hospital. As soon as Chen Mo reached the hospital room, he saw plainclothes officers guarding the door.

After a brief glance at them, Chen Mo entered the room.

Xiaoyu, who had been chatting with Li Ruoxi on the hospital bed, relaxed and smiled when she saw Chen Mo come in.

“I won’t interrupt your sweet moments. Xiaoyu, call me if you need anything,” Li Ruoxi said, greeting them before leaving the room.

“Are you okay?”

“The doctor said it’s nothing serious. I’ll be fine in a couple of days. I was relieved when Sister Zhao said you were okay and at the police station.”

“I can still see tear stains on your face. Have you been crying?” Chen Mo asked.

“Really?” Xiaoyu hurriedly wiped her face, then realized she’d been tricked. She lightly hit Chen Mo, her eyes red as she leaned against him. “When I woke up and you weren’t here, I was so scared.”

“It’s nothing big. We just ran into some scammers and got into a fight with them.”

“A fight? Were you hurt?” Xiaoyu quickly looked Chen Mo over.

“How could I get hurt? Wang Hai is a special forces soldier, really skilled. He ended up injuring them, and then we had to report to the police station.”

“I’m glad you’re okay.”

“Rest for a bit. I’ll go buy some food.”

Chen Mo stayed with Xiaoyu at the hospital until she fell asleep, then hurried back to the company. He was eager to find out the backgrounds of those two men and who exactly wanted him dead.

If Wang Hai hadn’t been there today, things could have been dangerous. He couldn’t imagine what might have happened next.

“Ink Girl,” Chen Mo said as soon as he turned on the computer.

“Brother Mo, Ink Girl is here.”

“Find out everything you can about the two men who attacked me today. The more details, the better.”

They had broken into his villa last night looking for him, and this morning, before he even reached the company, they tried to ambush him halfway. He felt uneasy, as if a thorn was in his back. If he didn’t find out who was behind it, he wouldn’t even be able to eat in peace.

With their facial features identified, as long as their identity information existed in the online world, Ink Girl would be able to find it.

Now, Ink Girl was everywhere in the digital world.

“Okay, Brother Mo. Please wait a moment.”

After speaking, Ink Girl fell silent. Chen Mo sat in his chair, waiting quietly. Half a minute later, over a dozen densely packed files popped up on the computer screen.

“Brother Mo, I found the information you wanted.”

Chen Mo perked up and focused on the information on the screen. Before long, his brow furrowed deeply.
