Chapter 88: Petty Thieves?

“Buzz… buzz… buzz…”

Chen Mo was sleeping when the sound of his phone woke him. After answering, he heard Ink Girl’s childlike voice. “Brother Mo, two people are trying to sneak into the villa. They’re climbing up to the second-floor balcony.”

Sneak in?

Chen Mo’s drowsiness instantly faded away.

His villa had hidden surveillance cameras. This monitoring system was watched over by Ink Girl. If Ink Girl decided it was an illegal intrusion, she would alert him.

It had never given an alert until now. He never expected an alert in the middle of the night.

“Can you confirm their identities?” Chen Mo asked at once.

“Their faces are disguised. The light is too dim, and there’s no clear shot. Identification is impossible. They can be confirmed as foreigners,” Ink Girl said.

“Foreigners? Disguised? Breaking into the villa? Notify the residential security department immediately.” Chen Mo’s expression turned grim. He bent down, picked up the sleeping Xiaoyu, and left the room.

“What’s wrong? Chen Mo?”

Being picked up by Chen Mo, Xiaoyu groggily woke up.

“It’s nothing. Don’t ask right now.” Carrying Xiaoyu, Chen Mo felt his way in the dark toward the basement.

Disguised foreigners—it was obvious they weren’t just there for a simple burglary. He couldn’t be sure of their identities yet, but he had to make sure Xiaoyu and he were safe.

“Did something happen?” In Chen Mo’s arms, Xiaoyu suddenly lost all sleepiness.

“Someone broke into the villa. Don’t speak for now.” Chen Mo spoke in a low voice. He carried Xiaoyu into the basement and locked the door.

The basement had an iron door. He believed that before the residential security arrived, there was no way they could open that door.

“Buzz… buzz… buzz…” Once inside the basement, Chen Mo’s phone vibrated.

“Answer.”

“Mr. Chen, we just received an alert from your villa. Did something happen?” As soon as the call connected, an urgent voice came through.

Zhuang Ji, along with a group of security guards, was rushing at full speed toward Chen Mo’s villa. The residents in this community were either wealthy or influential. There had never been any problems before. This sudden alarm woke up the entire security department.

If something went wrong, the community’s reputation would be ruined, and they would all be finished.

“Two unidentified individuals entered my villa. I am safe. Surround the villa and capture them.” Chen Mo said with a stern face.

If he hadn’t installed an extra layer of surveillance himself, with Ink Girl’s warning, he truly wouldn’t know what might happen next.

“Understood.” Zhuang Ji’s expression turned serious. “Hurry up, everyone! Surround the villa. Don’t let anyone escape. Someone notify the Boss.”

“Dammit, no one’s in the room.”

Inside Chen Mo’s room, Jack and Boyle held guns, their faces extremely grim. They had been careful enough, so why were they discovered?

“The blanket is still warm. Check other places. Don’t let them get away.”

Since they were already discovered, Jack didn’t plan to hide anymore. He started searching room by room.

“Nothing here.”

“I’ll check the basement.” Jack’s face darkened as he headed toward the basement.

“Damn it.” Seeing the tightly locked iron door of the basement, Jack’s face turned black. This anti-theft iron door wasn’t easy to open. Clearly, their target was inside.

“Jack, we have a situation.” Just as Jack was about to shoot open the iron door, Boyle’s shout came from above.

Without a second thought, Jack rushed upstairs.

“We’ve been spotted.”

Boyle pulled the curtain aside slightly, his face dark as he watched the security guards approaching outside.

“Dammit, let’s get out of here. Go out the back.”

Jack’s face was dark as he quickly ran to the second floor. The failed infiltration meant the mission had failed. They could only wait for the next opportunity. He just hoped Chen Mo would think this was just an ordinary burglary. Otherwise, it would be troublesome to try again later.

As soon as the two ran up the stairs, the villa’s main door was opened.

“They’re upstairs. Catch them.”

A group of security guards rushed upstairs. There was no other choice—the residents in this community were all people of status, either rich or powerful. If intruders got in and weren’t caught, they would all be punished, maybe even lose their jobs.

“Damn yellow monkeys.” As soon as Boyle ran out onto the balcony, he jumped straight down onto the grass below.

Jack wasn’t slow either. He hurriedly jumped down, stole a patrol car, and sped toward the villa community’s main gate. Now it wasn’t about whether they would be exposed, but whether they could escape.

“Over there, catch them!” A group of security guards immediately gave chase.

“Goodbye, yellow monkeys.”

The two drove the patrol car, crashed through the community gate’s barrier, and sped away.

Inside the villa, Chen Mo looked around with a stern face. Xiaoyu was still shaken, holding onto Chen Mo’s arm tightly for a bit of comfort.

“Where are they?” Chen Mo looked at Zhuang Ji from the community.

“They got away. Probably just two petty thieves. We’ve already called the police.” Zhuang Ji said.

“Petty thieves?”

Chen Mo didn’t believe that at all. Could petty thieves easily sneak into this kind of community and only be discovered after entering his villa?

“If petty thieves can come and go freely in your community, I have to doubt your community’s security capabilities.” Chen Mo’s expression was very unpleasant. He was grateful for Ink Girl’s warning; otherwise, he wouldn’t know what might have happened.

Zhuang Ji’s face changed slightly. With Chen Mo saying that, he really didn’t know how to respond.

This was a high-end villa area. Many wealthy people lived here precisely for peace of mind. If it was no longer safe, their reputation would plummet.

“Mr. Chen, we are investigating this matter and will give you an explanation.” Zhuang Ji said. “It’s already the middle of the night. How about you get some sleep first? We’ll give you an answer tomorrow morning.”

“You think I can sleep peacefully now?”

“Mr. Chen, I’ll arrange special security for you here tonight. Please rest assured and sleep. Tomorrow morning, we will definitely give you an answer.” Zhuang Ji could only brace himself and say.

“Chen Mo, it’s too late now. Let’s sleep first.” Xiaoyu tugged on Chen Mo’s arm.

“I hope you can give me an explanation tomorrow.” Chen Mo took a deep breath and said.

“Thank you, Mr. Chen. Thank you, Mrs. Chen. Rest well tonight. We’ll have someone keep watch.” Zhuang Ji breathed a sigh of relief and had the security guards leave the villa.

Back in the room, Chen Mo held Xiaoyu as they lay on the bed. “Let’s sleep now. They’re just two petty thieves. Don’t worry too much. We have work tomorrow.”

“Mm.” Xiaoyu nodded gently. She didn’t ask more questions and closed her eyes in his arms.

Both Jack and Boyle looked very unhappy. They couldn’t figure out how they were discovered ahead of time. They were so close to capturing their target.

“Jack, what do we do now?” Boyle asked.

“I’ll make a call.” Jack took out a satellite phone and dialed a number.

“Is the mission complete?”

As soon as the call connected, a deep voice came through.

“No. He probably noticed. Should we continue the mission?” Jack asked.

“Worthless. You can’t even handle such a small task. Continue the mission. By any means necessary. If the mission isn’t completed, don’t bother coming back.”

Without waiting for Jack to say anything else, the call ended.
