Chapter 4: Super Brain?
Chapter 4: Super Brain?
Chen Mo tossed his phone onto the bed in the male dormitory at Binhai University, a smile on his face. Today was going to be the luckiest day of his life.
After putting down his phone, Chen Mo picked up a calculus textbook and opened it.
Suddenly, his gaze focused.
The complex, difficult formulas in the book quickly became clear in his mind.
He flipped ten pages, and he could still clearly recall every formula, theorem, and even the solution process for each example problem.
What was happening? A photographic memory?
Chen Mo suddenly remembered Elder Shu’s words. His brain was now different from ordinary people’s—it had become a Super Brain.
Chen Mo quickly flipped back to the first page of the book and eagerly continued reading. His reading speed was incredibly fast, almost scanning ten lines at a glance. In less than half a minute, he finished a page. The formulas, theorems, and all the explanations and analyses were etched into his memory. Even after closing the book, everything remained crystal clear.
Chen Mo pinched his arm. It really hurt—this wasn’t a dream.
Overjoyed, Chen Mo kept turning the pages. He read very quickly, and in less than half an hour, he had finished half of the book.
Leibniz formula, Lagrange’s Mean Value Theorem, Cauchy’s Mean Value Theorem, Gauss’s formula…
Even after just one glance, all the formulas, theorems, and rules in the book were perfectly clear. Not only that, but variations of those formulas also instantly surfaced in his mind.
Never before had learning calculus felt so effortless.
Beaming with joy, Chen Mo continued reading. An hour later, he turned to the last page and closed the book. A dense stream of formulas and theorems flashed through his mind; he even remembered which page each formula was on.
Chen Mo was ecstatic.
Mathematics, which had once given him so much trouble, now wasn’t as hard to understand as he had imagined. He realized that learning might not be as difficult as he thought.
After putting the calculus book away, Chen Mo casually picked up a general physics textbook next to it and continued his studies. It was as if Chen Mo had unlocked a door to a thirst for knowledge, and he became completely absorbed, unable to pull himself away.
While Chen Mo was deeply engrossed in his book, several people walked into the dormitory from outside. Seeing Chen Mo, they looked at him strangely. When they noticed he was reading, their expressions turned even more peculiar.
“Did this guy get hit on the head by a bookshelf?” said the chubby guy leading the group.
“I think so,” said Liu De, who wore glasses, standing beside him.
The other three also nodded solemnly.
The five of them talked in low voices, pulling Chen Mo out of his reading trance. Seeing the chubby guy and the others, Chen Mo finally closed his book.
“When did you get back?” the chubby guy asked. “Zhu Gang heard a pretty girl was taking care of you, but you were still unconscious, so we didn’t want to disturb you. Are you okay now?”
“I’m fine,” Chen Mo said, feeling a warmth in his heart.
“Chen Mo, what are you reading?”
Zhu Gang, who was tall, thin, and looked like a bamboo pole, walked over to him. Seeing the physics book in Chen Mo’s hand, his expression turned odd. “Chen Mo, did something happen to you?”
“Bamboo Pole is right,” said the shortest guy in the dorm. “If you’re upset, don’t keep it to yourself. Tell us, and this humble monk will enlighten you. Bottling things up isn’t good for your health.” His name was Puyuan, and everyone called him Master Puyuan.
“Nonsense, I’m perfectly fine. You should go enlighten your ‘female devotees’ instead.”
“Hahahaha…”
Everyone burst into laughter. The fact that Chen Mo could crack a joke like that meant he really was okay.
“Chen Mo, I heard the girl you saved took care of you for three days. She sounds like a great girl—did you make a move?” The chubby guy leaned close to Chen Mo’s ear, a gossipy look on his face.
Remembering Xiaoyu’s face, Chen Mo smiled slightly.
“Mm, I see.”
The chubby guy patted Chen Mo’s shoulder meaningfully, chuckled, and went back to his seat. “Comrades, to celebrate the safe return of our dorm’s hero, let’s play a round of League of Legends.”
“Shouldn’t we order midnight snacks instead?”
“We’ll get chicken next time. We just went out and ate a bunch, so we’re not hungry.”
“Why does that sound a bit weird to me?”
…
The five of them turned on their computers and logged into the game. Chen Mo also refocused his attention on his book.
The next day, Chen Mo dragged himself out of bed like a zombie early in the morning. After washing up, he headed to the Library. He had been too absorbed in reading the night before and ended up reviewing all his major coursework. As a result, he didn’t sleep until after 2 a.m.
Today was basically his first date with Xiaoyu. If he skipped it because he overslept, he’d probably blow his chance.
When he arrived at the Library, Chen Mo went to check the bookshelf where the incident had happened. It had been cleaned up and looked as good as new.
He picked up a few books on illustrated guides to Chinese herbs and pharmacological analysis from the shelf, then walked to the study area.
On a weekend morning, the Library wasn’t very crowded—most people were still sleeping in. After glancing around the study area, Chen Mo chose a spot in the corner and sat down, quickly getting into study mode.
Before long, Chen Mo sensed movement beside him. He turned his head and saw Xiaoyu sitting down next to him. They hadn’t agreed on which floor to meet, but they both silently chose the floor where they first met.
“Are you feeling any discomfort?” Xiaoyu asked, scanning him with her eyes.
“None,” Chen Mo replied, shaking his head slightly.
“Are you studying medicine?” Xiaoyu pointed at the stack of books on illustrated Chinese herb guides and pharmacological analysis.
“Just felt like learning about it on a whim.”
Chen Mo’s answer made Xiaoyu’s eyes flicker. She seemed to think of something, and her cheeks turned slightly pink. She then focused her attention on her own book.
The Library fell silent again.
Chen Mo concentrated on his book, his eyes fixed intently on the pages. Images of various medicinal herbs flashed through his mind, along with their introductions and effects—all of which he memorized completely.
His reason for reading the illustrated herb guides was simple: he needed to identify the types of herbs mentioned in the Potential Exploitation technology. To use the herbs for the Serum, he had to know their names, because the names recorded in the technology were different from the ones used here.
He had obtained the Potential Exploitation technology, but to unlock his potential, he needed the Potential Potion. However, he currently lacked the technology and equipment to extract the Serum, so he could only use the most primitive method.
Chen Mo’s reading speed kept increasing—ten seconds per page—but he remembered every herb name and its effect.
In the dead silence of the Library, aside from the faint sound of people talking outside, only the sound of him turning pages could be heard.
After a while, Chen Mo sensed something was off. He looked up and saw that a girl had appeared across from him.
The girl wore a short skirt and had fair skin. She was quite pretty, but she lacked the delicate, refreshing aura that Xiaoyu had.
Xiaoyu’s face was flushed red as she locked eyes with the girl, looking very tense.
“Hello, I’m Li Ruoxi, Xiaoyu’s best friend.”
Li Ruoxi smiled and extended her small hand toward Chen Mo.
“Hello, I’m Chen Mo.”
After a brief handshake, Li Ruoxi pulled her hand back and stared straight at him. “The way you were looking just now didn’t seem like studying. Are you trying to chase our Xiaoyu?”
Yikes!
Chen Mo broke out in a cold sweat. He hadn’t expected this girl to be so direct. They could have stayed friends if she hadn’t called him out. Besides, he really was studying.
“If you don’t answer, I’ll take that as a yes.” Li Ruoxi’s eyes curved into crescent moons. “Considering you risked your life to save Xiaoyu last time, you pass my test. Now, I have some important intel for you. Want to hear it?”
Chen Mo glanced at Xiaoyu and saw her face was bright red. She pretended to read calmly, but it was clear she had no idea what was on the page.
“Yes!” Chen Mo turned back and nodded.
“Our Xiaoyu’s nickname is Kitten. She likes kittens because her personality is like one—quiet and gentle, but with a bit of a wild side sometimes. Kitten also has a hidden trait: she can be coquettish. I’ve never seen it myself, so it’s up to you whether you’re lucky enough to see it,” Li Ruoxi said meaningfully.
Beside them, Xiaoyu’s face turned red from her ears down to her neck. She wanted to stop Li Ruoxi, but they were in the Library and she didn’t dare speak loudly. Li Ruoxi pretended not to notice, leaving Xiaoyu helpless.
“Since her nickname is Kitten, she naturally likes fish. She’s also a fishing girl, grew up by the sea, and loves sea blue. She’s 165 cm tall, weighs 49 kg. Want to know her measurements and leg length? Come closer, and I’ll whisper it to you.”
Li Ruoxi gave a mischievous smile and crooked her finger, beckoning Chen Mo closer.
