Chapter 16: One-Star Green Poison Insect
Chapter 16: One-Star Green Poison Insect
This Green Poison Insect had a fist-sized white Insect Crystal embedded in its forehead, which glimmered with flowing light.
“Is this the BOSS?” Wang Ying asked with some excitement.
“No, it’s just an ordinary Green Poison Insect, but one with One-Star Strength,” Xu Feng said.
“Can we take it down?” Wang Ying asked nervously.
“It’s dangerous. If we had ten more Synthetic Medicine Crystals, we could kill it without any risk, but now we only have one…”
There were still many pills, but all the Blood Thistle Grass had been used up.
“Should we go up and gather some more Blood Thistle Grass first, then come back to fight it?” Seeing the excited glint in Xu Feng’s eyes, Wang Ying asked with concern.
“Heh, let’s try it first. If it’s really impossible, then we’ll go look for Blood Thistle Grass,” Xu Feng said, stretching his body.
“…”
“Stay far away. The Green Poison Insect’s venom is deadly even if you get just a little on you,” Xu Feng said, then gripped his Bone-Cleaver tightly and stared intently at the Green Poison Insect with One-Star Strength ahead.
“But, isn’t it too dangerous…” Wang Ying said softly.
Xu Feng shook his head and said nothing more.
“Although killing these Green Poison Insects safely is possible, it’s really too boring. My bones are itching—I really want a good, satisfying fight right now!” Excitement showed in Xu Feng’s eyes, and he became eager to try.
“After it eats the Synthetic Medicine Crystal, use your skill to lure it away from that patch of Green Glow Algae,” Xu Feng whispered.
The One-Star Green Poison Insect merely licked its tongue and cleaned up the Green Glow Algae where the Synthetic Medicine Crystal was. After that, the Green Poison Insect let out a pleased low hum, its eyes grew somewhat dazed, and it stood still in place, unmoving.
Thump—
A green orb smashed into its large body, snapping it out of its daze, but this also enraged the Green Poison Insect. It leaped up suddenly, crashing through the top of the sewer and creating a large hole, then fell back down with a painful cry.
Shaking its dizzy head, the Green Poison Insect fixed its oily green eyes on Wang Ying.
“Keep attacking!” Xu Feng said. Wang Ying continued using her skill, throwing orbs at the Green Poison Insect while slowly backing away.
Thump, thump—
The One-Star Green Poison Insect charged toward Wang Ying like a heavy truck, trampling over the Green Glow Algae.
“Alright, I’ll block it. You stay behind and just be careful using your skills,” Xu Feng said, then gripping his Bone-Cleaver, he rushed toward the Green Poison Insect.
Facing the Green Poison Insect that moved like a heavy truck, Xu Feng’s actions seemed a bit like a mantis trying to stop a chariot, but the aura emanating from him was not much weaker than the Green Poison Insect’s.
As the Green Poison Insect charged, just before they collided, Xu Feng spun his body and dodged directly to the side of the Green Poison Insect. At the same time, he swung his Bone-Cleaver hard at the Green Poison Insect’s skin, leaving a wound over a foot long on its body.
Immediately after, Wang Ying’s orb hit the Green Poison Insect once more.
“Die!” Xu Feng shouted, swinging his Bone-Cleaver with all his strength at the Green Poison Insect’s right hind leg. The Green Poison Insect’s skin looked thin but was unusually tough. Xu Feng hacked several times but only managed to cut a shallow wound. Aside from making the Green Poison Insect angrier, the damage was minimal.
At this point, Xu Feng’s damage to the Green Poison Insect was even less than Wang Ying’s. Seeing how little damage he was doing, Xu Feng waved at Wang Ying, signaling her to stop attacking, then alone, he circled the Green Poison Insect’s huge body, slashing and hacking relentlessly.
Wang Ying bit her lip. She knew Xu Feng was doing this to protect her, so the Green Poison Insect wouldn’t see her as a greater threat and attack her. Wang Ying didn’t think she could dodge the Green Poison Insect’s venom attacks like Xu Feng could.
Swish, swish—
The Green Poison Insect swung its iron hook-like front claws, trying to tear the human who jumped around like a flea into pieces. But Xu Feng seemed very familiar with the Green Poison Insect’s attacks; each time, with only a small dodge, he evaded the strikes, while his Bone-Cleaver accurately hit the Green Poison Insect’s body again and again.
Xu Feng could almost close his eyes and know what the Green Poison Insect would do next—this was experience gained through hundreds and thousands of battles.
Rip—
A stream of pale green blood spurted out. Xu Feng had finally cut off the Green Poison Insect’s right hind leg. The Green Poison Insect let out a miserable cry and spewed a jet of black-green venom toward Xu Feng’s location.
The venom spread in the air with a strong, sweet fragrance. Xu Feng only inhaled a little and felt dizzy.
Xu Feng bit his tongue hard, jolting his spirit awake, then dashed forward and slipped underneath the Green Poison Insect’s body—the only way to avoid its venom spray.
The black-green venom corroded like strong acid, eating away a large area. In no time, it had corroded a big hole in the sewer tunnel. The hole emitted thick smoke that continued to spread.
Xu Feng, now under the Green Poison Insect’s body, didn’t idle either. He immediately started hacking at the Green Poison Insect’s belly.
The defense of the Green Poison Insect’s belly was much weaker than its outer skin. With just two slashes, Xu Feng cut a cross-shaped wound in the Green Poison Insect’s abdomen.
“Die!” Xu Feng roared, thrusting his left hand into the wound, grabbing the Green Poison Insect’s belly skin, and yanking hard. With a splatter, the Green Poison Insect’s innards spilled all over the ground, immediately filling the sewer with a strong, foul smell.
“Gurgle—” The Green Poison Insect lunged forward suddenly, dragging its spilled innards along the ground. As it lunged, Xu Feng rolled away to the side.
By now, the Green Poison Insect was barely alive, lying on the ground with its body rising and falling weakly, looking as if it would die any moment. But Xu Feng didn’t let his guard down at all. Gripping his knife handle tightly, he continued hacking at the Green Poison Insect from behind. Although the Green Poison Insect tried hard to turn its body, with its right hind leg severed and its guts spilled, its strength rapidly faded. It only managed to shift its body slightly before it could move no more.
At this point, Xu Feng stepped onto the Green Poison Insect’s back and walked toward a palm-sized white spot where its head connected to its body.
As if realizing what Xu Feng intended to do, the Green Poison Insect grew panicked. It let out a series of “gurgle” sounds from its mouth, as if begging Xu Feng for mercy.
But Xu Feng showed no intention of stopping. He walked straight toward the white spot.
