Chapter 176: Bul-Kathos’ Children Set
Chapter 176: Bul-Kathos’ Children Set
Both swords still glowed dark green, as neither had been identified yet.
Just by appearance, one sword was long and the other short, their designs totally different.
The longer one was clearly a two-handed sword, though it could also be wielded one-handed. Overall it measured about 160 centimeters long and five fingers wide. Massive and lengthy, its form was intricate. Its 20-centimeter-long hilt was tightly wrapped in bright red beast hide stripes. Astonishingly, both edges of the blade bore dense, razor-sharp serrations, like the fierce fangs of a beast. These ran forward until about two-thirds along the blade, where two vicious barbs curved backward sharply toward the hilt. Beyond the barbs, the blade became smooth, sharp, and flawless, the point brutally keen. The blade itself shimmered gold, but its central ridge felt coarse like sandpaper. The flat, red metal body bore nine mysterious, dark black, ancient symbols shaped like tadpoles. Sun Fei didn’t understand them, but they seemed to contain a powerful, ancient magic. Each symbol pulsed with a deep, blood-like crimson light.
The shorter sword was a simpler one-handed weapon. Its design was more utilitarian, looking more like a broadsword than a traditional sword, yet both edges seemed sharpened. It was roughly 120 centimeters long and about six fingers wide. Its blade surface was engraved with countless densely packed, dark green magical symbols that shimmered strangely. The whole thing felt sturdy and unadorned, sturdy and wide-bladed, more suited for heavy chops than thrusts.
Sun Fei didn’t need to identify them. The moment he saw them, familiar yet distant memories from his past life told him exactly what these swords were: the Level 7 Green Set Items, “Bul-Kathos’ Children.”
These swords, named after a person, had a glorious history.
Legend had it that in the World of Diablo’s history, the Barbarians once had an unparalleled, mighty leader named Bul-Kathos. Stories said this Barbarian leader possessed power so immense and frightening it terrified the Gods of Heaven and the Demons of Hell. He led mighty Barbarian Warriors to win freedom for their people. He defended their homeland, Mount Arreat, defeating Demon King Baal’s fiendish legions. His fame soared across all three realms. Even Gods and Demons would recoil at his approach.
The entire World of Diablo gave this legendary leader a title: the Immortal King. His magically powerful armor and weapons, known as the Immortal King Set, were passed down, considered the ultimate Green Set for any Barbarian Character besides this set.
He also left behind a pair of swords, forged with incredible magic, forming another set: Bul-Kathos’ Children.
These were the very swords Sun Fei now held.
While Bul-Kathos’ Children weren’t as powerful or as magically rich as the Immortal King Set, the top Barbarian gear, and while they were just two swords without other armor pieces, for Sun Fei’s level 36 Barbarian Character, these were practically god-tier equipment. Based on Sun Fei’s past-life game memories, defeating the Act 2 Boss, Duriel, shouldn’t drop such gear. He didn’t know why they were in his hands.
He used two Scrolls of Identify. Golden light flashed. The full properties and names of both swords appeared before Sun Fei.
The intricate two-hander was named Bul-Kathos’ Sacred Charge – Colossus Blade.
One-Handed Damage 70-195, Two-Handed Damage 174-345. Attack Speed Level: Very Fast. Durability 50/50. +20% Increased Attack Speed, +200% Enhanced Damage, +35% Chance of Crushing Blow. Knocks Back Target. +20% to Fire, Lightning, Cold, and Poison Resistance.
The slightly shorter, plainer one-handed sword was named Bul-Kathos’ Tribal Guardian – Ritual Sword.
One-Handed Damage 120-150. It was a one-handed sword, so no two-handed damage. Attack Speed Level: Fast. Durability 44/44. +20% Increased Attack Speed, +200% Enhanced Damage, +50 Poison Damage over 2 seconds, +20 to Strength, Fire Resistance +50%.
Together, they formed Bul-Kathos’ Children Set, granting additional Set Item bonuses: +2 to All Barbarian Skills, +200% Enhanced Damage, +200% Enhanced Damage to Demons, +200 Damage to Undead, Adds 20 Fire Damage, +25 Defense.
After identification, the green glow faded from both swords, revealing their true colors. Though differently shaped, both swords exhibited a greenish-blue tint from afar. The short sword was deeper blue-green, perhaps due to its poison damage. A strange light flowed across its surface, making the metal look as fine as jade. A subtle, hazy, bluish sword aura surrounded it, radiating an intimidating chill. They felt powerful and mighty.
Sun Fei ran his hand gently over a hilt. A cool sensation traveled down his fingers, immensely comfortable, like stroking smooth, cool silk.
This was puzzling.
The Diablo World difficulty had three levels: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Players usually started on Normal and had to complete all quests and pass through every area before moving to the next difficulty. According to Sun Fei’s past-life game knowledge, Green Set Items like Bul-Kathos’ Children shouldn’t appear on Normal difficulty. The reason was simple: only characters around levels 50 to 60 possessed the necessary Strength and Dexterity to even lift them. Being weapons once used by the Immortal King, they had demanding level requirements and precise attribute restrictions. So, low-level characters couldn’t use such equipment at all.
Just thinking this, Sun Fei felt a jolt of alarm. Did that mean…
Did it mean that his current level 38 Barbarian (he’d just gained two levels defeating Duriel) wouldn’t meet the attribute requirements for this set?
But then, he noticed something strange immediately—
He was already firmly holding both swords! The harsh restrictions he remembered weren’t in effect. Sun Fei inspected them closely—and found the reason. The Bul-Kathos’ Children Set was… sealed.
“…Sealed Level 7 Weapons at 50% power. Effectivness reduced by 50% from the full state. User level and attribute requirements are reduced accordingly. Seals loosen as the user’s level rises. At level 60, all seals break, unlocking the set’s full power state!”
It was so!
Sun Fei couldn’t hold back a surge of joy.
Clearly, things were changing compared to the rules of the computer game Diablo world he remembered. Sealed weapons didn’t even exist in that game—yet here they were in this more ‘alive’ Diablo World.
Moreover, this magical seal seemed tailor-made for Sun Fei’s current level. He could equip and use this Level 7 Green Set immediately! Though their power was halved, even at this reduced state, both Bul-Kathos’ Sacred Charge·Colossus Blade and Bul-Kathos’ Tribal Guardian·Ritual Sword already boasted one-handed damage of around 70. This damage surpassed his current Purple and Green Twin Swords by more than double.
Plus, the power of these swords would grow as Sun Fei leveled up further.
Seeing this, Sun Fei hesitated for almost no time at all. He immediately equipped both swords. Gripping the hilts hard, an unprecedented surge of power coursed through his entire body. Just a slight wave of the blades produced a chilling, bluish storm strong enough to tear anything apart… Truly weapons once wielded by the Barbarian Immortal King. Incredibly powerful.
Sun Fei lovingly swung them around a while before collecting the other items Duriel left behind. The ground glittered with lights from various colored Magical Equipment. Shockingly, there were three gleaming Level 6 Gold Item Equipments there too.
“My luck is incredible today! I can’t believe that stupid, fat worm coughed up so many goodies…“ Sun Fei grinned so hard his teeth ached. “If only I could kill it a few more times, that’d be perfect!“
The three Gold Item Equipments were a bow, a light suit of armor, and a pair of chain boots.
After identification, the bow was named Wild Thorns’ Deadly Combat Bow. It looked ornate and beautiful. Aged patterns made it seem carved from ancient vines, with blooming roses on each end of the bow. Its bowstring appeared as a sky-blue line of light. Its two-handed damage was 45-60, and it had a freezing property. The light armor was named Titan’s Victorious Combat Plate. Defense: 95. It came with several magical effects. The chain boots were called Amber’s Quickstrike Boots. They had the special effect: +30% Increased Run/Walk Speed.
Sun Fei thought them over. They were all very decent equipment. After a moment, he decided to give them all to Ileena. The bow was her exclusive weapon type. The armor could protect an Archer’s relatively fragile body. The boots would boost her speed, creating distance from enemies. It seemed like these were custom-made for Ileena.
There were other equipment pieces, but they were only Level 4 Magic Equipment Items. Taking them back to sell for some Gold Coins to NPCs in Lut Gholein would be fine. So Sun Fei stored them all in his Belt Space.
