Chapter 145: Giant Axes and Magic Arrows
Chapter 145: Giant Axes and Magic Arrows
Thirty spinning giant axes swept forward like the kiss of the God of Death, cutting through everything in their path. Heavily armored soldiers were ripped apart beneath them as easily as tofu on a plate sliced by a sharp knife. Countless pairs of disbelieving eyes watched as their bodies were chopped in half at the waist. Legs kept running forward while torsos stayed rooted. The tremendous force shattered the swordsmen along with their body armor and steel swords. Severed limbs flew through the air alongside broken sword fragments. Fountains of blood dyed the blue sky red. No one could withstand these savage axes of death. Screams erupted everywhere only moments later. Soldiers who lost legs or arms but weren’t dead yet clutched their wounds in terror, howling in agony…
This was a living Hell.
The Earth Warrior was no stranger to battlefields, but this was the first time he had witnessed such savage, brutal carnage. A severed leg thumped down beside him. He recognized it. Barely three breaths before, its owner had been running behind him, snickering with excitement, banging his sword against his chest plate, eagerly rushing forward to plunder. Now, all those desires had vanished into thin air. That lively life had become a pile of minced meat.
The spinning great axes bore terrifying force, carving thirty bloody death channels five to six meters long through the charging army before finally slamming into the ground when their momentum faded.
In just that single strike, at least a quarter of Shenhua Kingdom’s two hundred heavy-armored infantry had been destroyed.
Survivors were drenched head to toe in the shower of blood. Their armor and faces were smeared with gore and bone fragments. Death and gore induced fear and numbness alike. With the agonized cries of comrades not quite dead ringing in their ears, the alliance soldiers, after a brief moment of panic and hesitation, quickly renewed their courage and roared as they charged.
Because opposite them, the thirty burly men, having thrown their giant axes, now appeared weaponless.
“Charge and kill them! Avenge our brothers!”
The Earth Warrior scrambled up from the ground and roared, leading the charge.
But—
The next action of the thirty giants made the blood of the hate-filled alliance soldiers almost boil. Those imposing, reckless giants suddenly clasped their heads and split into two groups of fifteen, circling wide to the flanks—and ran! Free of their cumbersome weapons, the thirty men ran faster than rabbits, quickly outpacing the charging army’s flanks and vanishing miraculously into the tall greenish-yellow grass in the distance. It was as if they had melted right into the wild grass!
“Cowards!”
“Scoundrels!”
“Shameless deserters!”
“Spineless maggots!!!”
Alliance soldiers and kings glared at the fleeing figures, utterly infuriated and breathless with rage, almost choking on their own bile. They’d just suffered immense casualties from those thirty giants and their axes. Surviving that onslaught only to find the enemy escape without paying an ounce of interest—just before they could strike back! It felt like throwing a punch at empty air after building immense fury. The sheer frustration was maddening!
Fortunately, the opposing king of Shampoo City hadn’t fled.
Sun Fei quickly drew the focus of their hatred.
“Charge! Chop down their king!”
The alliance soldiers fell into a hysterical frenzy. Gnashing teeth, red-eyed like enraged rabbits, they charged towards the Shampoo City position. They swore to capture that wretched king and shove the handle of a great axe right up his ss.
Opposite them.
On the hilltop, the red command flag flashed once more.
A dozen enormous, thick iron tower shields positioned at the very front of Shampoo City’s formation began to move. Unexpectedly, they didn’t converge to form a defensive wall. Instead, they shifted sideways to the flanks, completely exposing the Urban Management forces and their king positioned behind them directly to the charging enemy force.
The entire Shampoo City formation now resembled a bizarre, strangely perverse ‘U’ shape. It didn’t look like defensive warfare at all. Rather, it seemed like a brazen temptress eagerly opening her arms, waiting for those maddened giants opposite to charge in and ravage her.
Sun Fei patted his mount, the Big Black Dog, under his waist, and retreated calmly to a point further back on the hill.
This movement looked to the Nine-Nation Alliance like someone trying to escape, further fueling their mad charge.
But for Sun Fei, it was simply to stand beside the children.
These children were the top students selected from the Chambord City Civil and Military School. Many came from humble backgrounds, knowing hardship and value. They were recipients of the prestigious ‘King’s Scholarship’—the vital cornerstones for Shampoo City’s future rise. That’s why Sun Fei, against all objections, had brought them to this perilous battlefield today. It was solely so they could feel the cruelty of war and the rapidly changing chaos of battle up close.
“My children of Shampoo City, do not fear. Now, open your eyes and watch this scene closely. See how your fathers battle these vile invaders. Feel the atmosphere of this battlefield with your hearts. Because one day, you too will do as your fathers do now: take up arms and fight on the battlefield to defend your homes and loved ones. Remember this: Any student of the Chambord City Civil and Military School must choose to be a humble but brave soldier over a lofty but cowardly general!”
Sun Fei spoke as his gaze swept past each child, full of encouragement. Suddenly, he raised his voice: “Do you understand?”
“Yes! Principal!” The little ones answered in unison, nodding firmly. The pure adoration and respect in their eyes made Sun Fei feel light, almost weightless enough to float.
Then the six-nation alliance soldiers finally closed in to less than ten meters from the Shampoo City position. Over fifty members of the Urban Management stood loosely where they were. They merely adopted a guarding posture—shields raised, short spears held tight—utterly unconcerned about the ferocious enemy about to crash into them.
“Kill them all!”
Seeing victory within grasp, the Earth Warrior running at the very forefront of the alliance forces waved his arm high, boosting his comrades’ morale.
But just then, something strange happened—
The bright, clear blue sky, cloudless moments ago, was suddenly awash with streaks of multicolored light, as if illuminated by sacred hues of all shades.
Perhaps sensing something, the Earth Warrior glanced upward in surprise, disbelief dawning on his face even as the desperate realization struck him. Uncontrollable terror instantly spread through his eyes: “No…!”
BOOM—!
CRACK—!
WHOOSH—!!
The next second, as the multi-colored divine lights rained down, disaster struck instantly. Violent explosions, splintering frost, terrifying electric currents, and chilling, poisonous gas swirled around the charging soldiers. Flames, ice, lightning, and venom plummeted from the sky with unbelievable destructive power. Lives were reaped in an instant. Screams and shrieks mingled together, rising and falling…
“Mages! They have mages…!”
“It’s a trap! Traaap! Fall back!!!”
“Mommy, help me, save me…”
“Ah! My leg! My leg’s gone…”
Brimming with hate and greed just moments before, the alliance army was instantly stunned. The Two-Star Earth Warrior at the very front didn’t even have time to dodge before being struck simultaneously by an ice arrow, a fire arrow, and a lightning arrow. His body exploded into worthless gory chunks. His Two-Star Earth Elemental Combat Aura failed to save him. His thick armor offered no protection whatsoever.
Behind him, the Shenhua Kingdom heavy infantry squares met almost instant annihilation.
Metal was an excellent conductor for electricity; freezing ice and searing heat spread rapidly over steel armor. The hundred-plus Shenhua heavy soldiers who had miraculously survived the giant axes offered almost no resistance. Their sturdy steel armor turned into murderous instruments against them. Within moments, nearly all were swiftly wiped out less than ten meters from the Shampoo City position. Some unlucky souls not killed instantly faced a worse fate: they were either frozen solid or burned alive inside their own armor.
The scales of victory tipped completely in an instant.
Only then, with the charging troops now in complete disarray, did the distraught allied kings further back finally trace the source of the terrifying attack. Unknown to them, the ‘palace beauties’ from the six carriages at the rear had now all moved to the low hill before their wagons. Each of them radiated powerful fluctuating waves of magic. Longbows gripped expertly in their hands, they unleashed arrows imbued with deadly power towards the charging soldiers. Each streak of multi-colored flame that flew through the sky was like a swing of the Death’s Scythe, mercilessly plunging into the surging tide of soldiers.
“Gods… Twenty-six Magic Archers?!”
It was as if everyone had been struck by lightning. They were instantly robbed of speech and thought.
The faces of the nine kings turned ashen. They stared, dumbstruck, as those who they thought would be effortlessly captured prey suddenly shed their innocent, endearing guise to become harbingers of death themselves. With sharp eyes and practiced movements, they drew arrows imbued with ice, fire, lightning, and poison magic. The arrows rained down like intimate kisses from the God of Death onto the chaos of the charging allied soldiers!
So fast!
The female archers’ speed was terrifyingly fast.
People could only see faint afterimages of their delicate arms and slender fingers moving mid-air. Arrow after arrow flew out like a continuous, seamless curve! In the brief span of less than ten breaths, those twenty-six innocent-looking girls must have already loosed over a thousand magic arrows!
A thousand arrows of death and destruction.
