Chapter 18: The Charlatan’s Performance
Chapter 18: The Charlatan’s Performance
Sun Fei followed the sound with his eyes.
He saw a thin young girl with fiery crimson hair, as if it were burning flames, sitting under a large beech tree to his right. She was holding someone and crying softly.
Sun Fei looked more closely and saw that the person the young girl held was none other than the severely wounded and dying white-haired tough man, Pierce.
The Squadron Leader of the Royal Guard, Brook, was also there, looking uneasy and trying to comfort the girl.
“Your Majesty the King!”
Seeing Sun Fei approach, Brook was overjoyed and quickly stood up to bow. “Your Majesty, have you found a solution?”
He looked anxiously at Sun Fei, terrified that Sun Fei might shake his head and give him bad news. Pierce’s severe injuries had lasted this long, but it was the limit now. He probably couldn’t hold on for another ten minutes.
Seeing how nervous this honest man was, Sun Fei decided to tease him on purpose.
Sun Fei didn’t answer Brook directly. Instead, he pointed absently at the red-haired girl and asked, “She is…”
“Louis, she is Pierce’s daughter, Louis.” Brook forced down his impatience and introduced her to Sun Fei.
Sun Fei nodded without showing any expression.
So this red-haired girl was the 12-year-old daughter Louis that Pierce had worried about even while severely wounded.
Unlike Pierce, the white-haired brute, little Louis had a very delicate and pretty appearance. Her teary eyes could soften even the hardest hearts. She was a definite beauty in the making. Her fiery red hair was rare and very striking, which reminded Sun Fei of the clever young witch Hermione from the British author Rowling’s fantasy masterpiece, Harry Potter, in his past life.
However, Sun Fei keenly noticed that this 12-year-old girl had a very cool, even icy, beauty about her. Her somewhat mature expression didn’t quite match her age of 12.
“Are you the person Uncle Brook said could save my father?”
Noticing someone approaching, little Louis, who had been crying, lifted her head. Glittering tears still hung at the corners of her eyes. Clearly, she was extremely sad and anxious, but she spoke calmly in a tone that didn’t match her age and expression: “If you can save my father, Louis is willing to be your lover for life.”
Sun Fei was stunned.
Very stunned.
Super stunned.
Wow, are 12-year-old girls in this different world all so precocious? …Lover? Does this little kid who hasn’t even grown all her hair know what being a lover means? How old are you? Wait until you grow up to my…
Sun Fei had a row of black lines on his forehead.
He felt that dealing with such a little Lori was even more mentally exhausting than facing the super boss Diablo in the World of Diablo.
Sun Fei crouched down, took out the bottle of Minor Healing Potion, and carefully squeezed out one drop, letting it fall into the mouth of Pierce, who was severely unconscious and breathing weakly.
Success or failure depended on this moment’s effect!
Sun Fei was nervous.
The red-haired girl and the honest man Brook beside him were even more nervous.
All three of them stared intently at Pierce’s reaction, their hearts in their throats, afraid something unexpected might happen.
Time passed silently, slowly, like a silent poison.
Gradually, Pierce, who had been breathing faintly, suddenly started breathing rapidly. Visibly, his pale, bloodless face began to turn rosy, and the wounds on his body healed at an astonishing, unbelievable speed.
Brook and little Louis watched with their mouths wide open, their eyes full of shock.
Although they didn’t know what the red liquid was that King Alexander had dripped into Pierce’s mouth, the effect was obvious. The healing power of this liquid exceeded the best scenario they had imagined.
Magical, unbelievable, shocking, incredible!
It was even better than if a high-ranking Divine Master from the Holy Church had personally treated him.
The two exchanged a glance, then looked at Sun Fei crouching on the ground. Their eyes were as if they were looking at a god walking among men.
And Sun Fei was also shocked by the terrifying healing ability of the Minor Healing Potion.
He hadn’t expected that such a tiny drop of potion would have such an astonishing effect, almost like the legendary power in past-life martial arts and Gods and Demons stories that could revive the dead and regenerate flesh. Clearly, if he poured the entire small bottle of Minor Healing Potion down, the severely wounded and dying Pierce would probably jump up immediately, lively enough to drink and chase women.
Such an effect would be too shocking and unbelievable, so Sun Fei didn’t plan to do that.
Sun Fei carefully observed Pierce’s condition. After one drop of potion entered his mouth, the white-haired tough man’s wounds healed, his breathing became steady, and his face turned rosy, but he still remained unconscious.
“This must be the healing limit of that one drop of potion!”
He had a rough idea in his mind and dripped another drop of the red potion into Pierce’s mouth.
This drop worked immediately.
Almost the moment the potion entered his mouth, the white-haired tough man, who had been unconscious, opened his eyes and woke up.
He groaned, then slowly regained his senses. He opened his eyes and looked at the three people standing before him, his eyes full of confusion. He shook his head, trying to recall. Pierce had no idea what had happened to him. He only remembered that he had been on the verge of death, but somehow, now the bone-deep pain from his wounds was gone, and even breathing wasn’t so difficult anymore…
“What’s going on? I…”
Seeing Pierce finally speak, Brook was overjoyed.
Little Louis cried out happily and threw herself into her father’s arms. At this moment, the 12-year-old girl finally regained an unprecedented sense of security and happiness. Her red hair seemed to burn like flames in the gentle breeze. “Dad, you’ve come back to life… you’re really better… God of War bless… His Majesty the King saved you…”
At the end, the girl cried tears of joy, sobbing too much to speak.
The terrifying feeling of possibly losing her only close relative at any moment had left a deep scar in this young girl’s soul. She never wanted to experience that feeling again.
Amid his daughter’s crying, Pierce seemed to finally understand something.
This warrior, who had shown no fear facing enemy swords, didn’t say a word. He just held his thin daughter tightly in his arms, feeling her fearful yet overjoyed emotions. A single hero’s tear quietly fell from the corner of his eye…
Sun Fei watched the father and daughter reunited after a brush with death and smiled.
He quietly left without disturbing the deep father-daughter bond between Pierce and little Louis.
Two drops of Minor Healing Potion were enough to snatch the severely wounded and dying Pierce from the hands of the God of Death. This result gave Sun Fei a rough understanding of the potion’s effect in the real world—basically similar to its effect in the World of Diablo.
This gave Sun Fei greater confidence for what he planned to do next.
“Alexander, the water and basins are ready.”
With the sound, Angela and Gemma each carried a large basin of water, hurrying out from the back of the Royal Palace. The blonde little Lori Gemma called out from a distance.
Sun Fei walked over, took a basin in each hand, turned around, and told the dark-haired strong man Brook to find a table. He placed the water basins on the table…
Angela, Gemma, and the others didn’t know what Alexander intended to do, so they watched curiously with fixed gazes.
“The act is about to begin!”
Sun Fei secretly laughed to himself.
He walked over, knelt before the table, clasped his hands in front of his chest, closed his eyes, and mumbled something mystical. A string of magical words that no one had ever heard before floated out. His expression was serious, exceptionally solemn, as if he were praying and confessing to some mysterious deity…
Although no one understood what the king was saying, his devout demeanor affected those around him. Angela was the first to pull the blonde little Lori Gemma down to kneel. Then Brook, along with some wounded soldiers who could move, and women caring for the injured, also knelt on the ground.
Sun Fei’s ears twitched, hearing everything happening behind him.
He stole a glance and barely managed to stop himself from laughing out loud.
He had to keep up the charade.
So he continued babbling in the language from his past life: “If you don’t know Wu Tenglan, even watching all the adult movies is in vain… I am a green onion, standing in the wind and rain. If anyone tries to dip me in sauce, I’ll curse their ancestors… by the urgent law… hehe, you all don’t understand what I’m saying, you don’t understand… I definitely have to hold this scene!”
After repeating this a few times and feeling the timing was about right, Sun Fei finally stood up.
The large group of people kneeling behind him also stood up one after another, looking at Sun Fei in confusion…
Clang—!
Suddenly, Sun Fei drew the long sword from Brook’s waist with a backhand motion and cut his own palm with it.
Blood spurted out.
Sun Fei reached out and let the blood drip into the clear water in the two basins on the table.
“Alexander, you…”
Angela, seeing this, couldn’t hold back a worried cry.
Sun Fei turned and gave the beautiful girl a secretly pleased and brilliant smile, signaling her not to worry.
No one noticed that as he turned, he used his body to block everyone’s view. With his hands behind his back, he quietly opened the stopper of the Minor Healing Potion bottle and mixed most of the potion with the blood from his palm, dripping it into the basins.
“God of War above, my brave warriors, you are saved. Through my communication and Prayer, the god has finally agreed to save us. He infused Divine Power into my body. Just drink this water flowing with Divine Power, and no matter how severe the injury, it will heal…”
Sun Fei talked nonsense, lying with his eyes wide open, and shamelessly played the charlatan.
To prove the truth of his words, he turned and soaked his wounded hand in the water in the basin. After waiting a second or two, when he pulled it out, thanks to the potion diluted in the water, the wound on Sun Fei’s palm quickly healed, leaving only a faint red scar.
Bzzz—!
Seeing this unbelievable scene, the crowd began to buzz uncontrollably.
