Chapter 15: The Ninja Turtles
Chapter 15: The Ninja Turtles
After verifying his guess, Sun Fei decided to quit the Sorceress character.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to train the Sorceress character, but he felt it was better to master one skill than to know many poorly. Time in the real world did not wait. Shampoo City faced a life-and-death enemy. He decided to focus on the Barbarian character’s skills for now. He needed to quickly level up one game character so he could make the biggest difference in the city defense battle.
With a thought, Sun Fei instantly exited the game. He was back at the screen from before the game started.
Sun Fei had mostly figured out how this amazing game worked by now. It used pure mental control. It felt a bit like making a wish come true. As long as he silently thought about his choice, he could basically do all the things he used to need a mouse for in computer games.
Sun Fei stood before the earlier 3D virtual full-screen display.
This time he chose the level five Barbarian character from before. After confirming entry, a feeling of weightlessness came over him. His vision blurred. In less than a second, he successfully entered the game.
The place he arrived at this time was finally Blood Moor.
The Barbarian Sun Fei, who had already cleared all the monsters in the Den of Evil quest, appeared at the deepest part of the cave. The ground was covered with monster blood and broken limbs. He stood before an oval blue light sphere about two meters tall. This was the Portal from the Town Portal Scroll that Sun Fei had activated last time but hadn’t yet had a chance to use.
Some broken and shabby equipment lay scattered on the ground.
Sun Fei checked the Barbarian character’s backpack. He had already put most of the valuable equipment inside. He looked around again. Seeing nothing was left behind, he stepped into the blue Portal. His vision swam. The next second, he appeared inside the Rogue Encampment.
The Rogue Encampment, which had been continuously rainy before, was finally clear now.
But the sky still felt a bit grey and hazy. It felt like the heavily polluted industrial cities from his previous life. It still gave a very oppressive feeling. The only thing that lifted Sun Fei’s spirits was that the air here was exceptionally fresh.
Sun Fei found Sister Acarra.
After a conversation that was no different from the TV game in his previous life, Sun Fei received the quest reward—one skill point. He could choose to add it to any skill on the Barbarian Skill tree.
Sun Fei did not hesitate. He directly added it to Axe Mastery.
The current situation did not allow him to develop in an average way. Sun Fei had to first improve his strongest skill. He needed to maximize his combat power. After all, the enemy clearly had more than just Lund as a master. Sun Fei needed to become stronger quickly.
After adjusting his skill, Sun Fei pestered Sister Acarra.
“Honorable Sister Acarra, I have a few questions I would like to ask…”
“I know what you want to ask, young adventurer…” The spiritual leader of the Rogue Encampment seemed to see through Sun Fei’s mind. A smile was on her face. “I am very willing to answer your questions. But first you must know, in the Rogue Encampment, to get anything, you must pay a sufficient price. So the key is… do you have anything that interests me?”
Damn, this woman is so direct.
Sun Fei was shocked by Acarra’s straightforward statement.
He originally thought nuns were the type who practiced self-restraint, endured hardship, and were unaffected by worldly things. Who would have thought that Auntie Acarra, as the spiritual leader of the Rogue Encampment, would openly ask for a bribe. Sun Fei felt utterly defeated.
“Well… alright then. Can Gold Coins be the payment?” Sun Fei asked.
“Yes.” Acarra smiled until the wrinkles on her face nearly blossomed like chrysanthemums. “For each question answered, the starting price is 2000 Gold Coins. Of course, it ultimately depends on the question’s value. The cost for the answer to some questions might be something you simply cannot afford right now.”
Seeing her agree, Sun Fei was overjoyed inside.
But when he finally checked his backpack, he was dumbfounded.
Up to now, he only had a little over 1100 Gold Coins. This amount wasn’t even enough to buy the answer to one question… What should he do now?
Sun Fei couldn’t help but want to curse. This thieving woman’s heart was truly black. 2000 Gold Coins for one question? Why don’t you just go rob someone?
It looks like I have to go sell some equipment… Huh? Wait… Equipment?
Sun Fei looked at the two green pieces of equipment in his backpack. Suddenly, he had an idea.
Since Gold Coins work, then equipment should work too, right?
Holding back a bellyful of complaints, he turned and asked respectfully, “Honorable Sister Acarra, my Gold Coins are not enough. I wonder if I can use these two items instead?”
As he spoke, he took out the two items: a Sorceress staff and a fist sword, both glowing green.
Acarra’s eyes lit up.
Blue equipment?
“They can be exchanged… Equipment of this level hasn’t been seen in the Rogue Encampment for a long time, young adventurer. These two items, the Deep Blue Sorceress Staff and the Hidden Fist Sword, are worth 8000 Gold Coins. You may ask four questions!”
Acarra was a high-level nun. She had the special ability to identify equipment. So she didn’t need to use a Scroll of Identify. With just a glance, she could name these two blue pieces of equipment.
When she appraised the equipment, she seemed quite serious, showing a hint of sacred dignity. This demeanor finally matched the purple nun’s robe she wore, setting her apart from the earlier image of a nitpicking, black-hearted peddler auntie.
“Only 8000 Gold Coins? That’s too little, isn’t it?”
Sun Fei exclaimed exaggeratedly.
Actually, he didn’t know the exact price of the two pieces of equipment.
But based on his earlier impression, he always felt the prices Auntie Acarra offered were heavily inflated. So Sun Fei felt it was very necessary to negotiate the price up a bit: “Honorable Sister Acarra, how about this? Let’s not just talk about Gold Coins all the time. It’s too vulgar. It doesn’t suit your noble status as the leader of the Rogue Encampment. Let’s just trade these two pieces of equipment for five questions. In the future, if I get similar equipment, I’ll bring it to you. What do you think?”
When Acarra heard this, a row of black lines appeared on her forehead. She nearly spat in disdain.
This young adventurer was really cunning and shameless. He said Gold Coins were vulgar, but in one breath he increased four questions to five questions. That was like adding 2000 Gold Coins. Why don’t you say that’s vulgar?
But after thinking about it, she still agreed to Sun Fei’s proposal.
Over so many years, this young adventurer before her was the only one who had entered the Rogue Encampment. He was also the first person who could survive in the monster-infested wilderness. In the Rogue Encampment, although there were still many capable female Rogues, their strength was barely enough to protect the camp’s safety. It was even harder for them to survive in the monster-filled wilderness and bring back these useful pieces of equipment.
Moreover, Acarra could clearly feel that as time passed, Diablo’s power was corrupting this world’s energy faster and faster. She still had too many important plans that needed this young adventurer before her to complete.
“Thank you for your generosity, Honorable Sister Acarra. My first question is: Why did I inexplicably come to this world?”
“Young adventurer…”
Acarra looked at Sun Fei with a strange gaze and said slowly, “I do not know where you come from, because in my perception, you are clearly not from this world. But I can be sure, your arrival here must be the will of the gods. This world needs you!”
“Ah? The will of the gods? This… is the answer?” Sun Fei was dumbstruck.
“That’s right. This is the answer.” Auntie Acarra was certain, nodding seriously.
Sun Fei saw black before his eyes. He was so angry he wanted to curse. The will of the gods? What kind of bullshit answer is that? How is that any different from not saying anything? I don’t even know which corner the gods are in, farting to make holes, peeing to mix mud, playing house. For a fine young man who grew up with the Party’s atheism, Acarra’s answer was as useless as saying ‘we eat so we don’t feel hungry’.
But when under the eaves, one has to bow their head.
Who made this auntie before him the spiritual leader of the Rogue Encampment?
Sun Fei wept tears internally, quietly singing a song by Chen Xiaochun in his heart: “You’re Vicious.”
He endured it.
He quickly thought of his second question—
“My second question: If I am killed while fighting the monsters in the wilderness, is there a chance for resurrection?”
This was the question Sun Fei cared about the most.
The series of quests in the World of Diablo was just the beginning. If he wanted to level up and become stronger later on, facing those powerful super bosses was inevitable. If he got careless then, death was a real possibility, it wouldn’t be impossible to kick the bucket.
So before something like that actually happened, Sun Fei had to find out clearly: In this world, is it like the computer game from his previous life, where the game character has a chance to resurrect after death.
Acarra suddenly looked at Sun Fei with a strange expression.
“Young man, I have to admit, you know far more than I imagined. Yes, a very, very long time ago, adventurers who appeared here, after death, could receive salvation from the gods and be resurrected…” At this point, Acarra’s speech suddenly slowed down. “But, too much time has passed. Diablo’s power pollutes this world every second. For fifty or sixty years, not a single adventurer has come here… So, the answer to this question is—I don’t know!”
Sun Fei was dumbstruck again. “Don’t… don’t know? This counts as an answer?”
“It counts. Because I have told you everything I know truthfully!”
Sun Fei’s eyes began to glow red with fire. His mouth began to emit black smoke. His nose began to snort white steam. A little demon holding a pitchfork almost appeared above his head. Amitabha, is this auntie playing with me? Diablo preserve us, may this greedy nun be captured by monsters and subjected to unspeakable acts!
Sun Fei inwardly complained.
But there was nothing he could do. He could only continue to endure it!
Damn it, I’m practically becoming a Ninja Turtle.
