Chapter 5: Mission Accomplished
From vomiting after killing his first monster to now ignoring splattering blood and flying bits of broken organs, Sun Fei, covered in blood, felt he was undergoing a hellish trial by fire and blood. In just a few short hours, his nerves had grown incredibly tough, and he was fast becoming a cold-blooded killing machine.
This was simply a game designed for killing.
It was so damn realistic.
Even the pain felt unbelievably real.
Sun Fei did not know if dying in this lifelike game world would mean actual permanent death. He did not dare to test it, as the consequences might be too much for him to bear.
Over the past three-plus hours of killing, Sun Fei discovered that some knowledge he had from computer games was not entirely accurate in this realistic world. He was slowly learning the rules of this world.
In this brutal and bloody world, for a Barbarian, the stats of Might and Stamina became extremely important—sufficient Might ensured powerful attack strength, while ample Stamina not only reduced fatigue in endless slaughter but also helped him escape when fleeing from those bloodthirsty monsters.
As for allocating skill points to Axe Mastery and Howl, it was because his only weapon right now was an axe. He needed to make sure that rusty axe could deliver its full potential. Howl, on the other hand, allowed him to scatter monsters by instilling fear in them when he was surrounded.
Facing constant threats to his survival, Sun Fei could no longer worry about his character’s long-term development. His top priority was to save his own skin.
After allocating all his points, Sun Fei opened his stats panel—

Compared to his starting blank slate, these ability stats had improved tremendously, almost a qualitative leap.
Of course, the increase in some attributes wasn’t solely due to leveling up.
They were also the result of some special equipment effects.
During the earlier bloody carnage, Sun Fei had collected many pieces of equipment from slain monsters and equipped them on himself. Among them was an Energy Cap of Red Orange, which provided +1 Energy and +5% Lightning Resistance, slightly boosting his Mana and Lightning Resistance.
After checking his personal stats, Sun Fei opened his backpack.
In this world, the backpack Sun Fei obtained was a magical space container similar to a spatial ring. It had a total of forty slots, each capable of holding one item like a Minor Healing Potion. Of course, larger equipment like helmets or swords took up slightly more slots.
Currently, Sun Fei’s backpack was completely full.
He thought for a moment, then used the Town Portal Scroll given to him when his character was created. A soft buzzing sound filled the air, and a blue light mass over three meters tall appeared beside Sun Fei. He hesitated briefly before stepping into it.
The next second, Sun Fei appeared in the Rogue Encampment.
The sensation of using the Town Portal Scroll was strange, somewhat like traveling through a time tunnel. Sun Fei closed his eyes to savor the feeling, then figuring out the direction, he once again sought out the nun Acarra.
This high-ranking nun, aside from being a quest-giver, was also a shrewd merchant of weapons and equipment. Before officially heading to the Den of Evil to clear out the monsters and complete his first in-game mission, Sun Fei decided to properly upgrade his gear. This might give him a better chance to survive and avoid being chased down or torn apart by monsters in the Den of Evil, especially since there was a mini-boss monster there.
Including his earlier grinding in the wilds to reach level 5, it was all for the same cautious reason.
The truth was important, but staying alive to learn the truth was even more crucial.
Sun Fei sold all the items he had collected in his pack—several bottles of Exploding Gas, Javelins, broken Sorceress staffs, leather boots, gloves, and other monster drops he didn’t need—earning over 800 Gold Coins. Combined with some Gold Coins dropped by monsters earlier, he ended up with more than 1,400 Gold Coins in total.
Using these Gold Coins, he bought some equipment from Acarra—
A Two-Handed Greataxe with an attack of 6-15, and a leather armor with a defense of 13. He equipped them all on himself. Then he purchased a few Minor Healing Potions, four Town Portal Scrolls, and three Scrolls of Identify. His gear was now completely renewed.
It gave him a refreshing feeling, like trading a slingshot for a cannon.
He then returned to the massive blue light mass—the portal created by the earlier Town Portal Scroll.
Buzz, buzz, buzz!
With a soft hum, Sun Fei reappeared in the monster-infested Blood Moor. Locating the direction of the Den of Evil on his mini-map, he gripped his Great Axe firmly and strode forward with determination.
As it turned out, Sun Fei’s earlier caution paid off.
In this world, the monsters lurking in caves seemed even more ferocious than those wandering the open wilderness. Besides common creatures like Quill Rats, Zombies, Fallen, and Fallen Shamans who could cast Fireball, the Den of Evil also housed a massive, gorilla-like monster known as the Huge Beast. These brutes had thick skin, strong defenses, and formidable attack power.
Sun Fei began his clearing operation inside the cave.
Having reached level 5, his attack and defense had greatly increased. He swept through the area, cutting down monsters like they were melons and vegetables, meeting little resistance along the way.
Blood splattered, monsters howled, and the slaughter continued.
Drenched in blood, Sun Fei wielded his Two-Handed Greataxe like a god of death. Wherever he passed, monsters fell dead. Even when encountering groups of monsters, Sun Fei would charge into their midst and use the Barbarian’s Howl skill. Once the monsters scattered in fear, he would hunt them down one by one…
Inside the cave, Sun Fei saw many mangled human corpses.
Some lay on the ground, others were tied to pillars, their intestines spilling from their chests, eyes gouged out. Some female Rogues had even been raped by these vile monsters. Swarms of flies buzzed around the decaying bodies—a gruesome, unbearable sight.
Such scenes filled Sun Fei with rage toward these monsters.
As a human, even though he knew this was just a game world, he couldn’t help but immerse himself in the storyline. A blazing fire burned in his chest, and he slashed at the monsters like a madman.
Finally, after who knows how long,
As the last monster before him let out a miserable howl and collapsed into a pool of blood, brilliant golden rays suddenly descended from above, illuminating every corner of the cave and lighting up the dark cavern brightly…
Then, a familiar voice echoed in Sun Fei’s mind—
“Congratulations, player Sun Fei. You have excellently passed the first trial of the World of Diablo, completing the mission assigned by nun Acarra. You may now return to the Rogue Encampment to find Acarra and claim your reward…”
The voice snapped Sun Fei back to his senses.
Panting heavily, he scanned his surroundings and was surprised to find that, without realizing it, he had slaughtered every monster. Even the mini-boss of the Den of Evil, Corpsefire, had long fallen to his axe. Shiny Gold Coins and various pieces of equipment littered the ground.
“Was I going crazy earlier?”
Sun Fei thought back and found it unbelievable that he had been driven to such fury by the scenes in this game world. But it wasn’t entirely his fault—the world was just too realistic. The sight of those brutally killed humans had ignited a deep rage within him.
After standing in a daze for a while, Sun Fei began to clean up the battlefield.
Gold Coins didn’t take up backpack space, so Sun Fei first picked up all the Gold Coins on the ground. Then he started selecting other valuable equipment from the ground to stuff into his pack. What made him beam with joy was the appearance of two blue items on the ground, gleaming with a faint blue light—probably dropped when he hacked the cave boss Corpsefire to death in a frenzy.
Sun Fei eagerly went to pick them up.
But—
“Damn it! A Sorceress staff and a claw weapon? Are you kidding me? None of these are for the Barbarian!”
Upon seeing the green equipment clearly, Sun Fei was greatly disappointed.
He had finally obtained higher-tier green equipment, but none of it was usable by his Barbarian character. It felt like a blue-pill-fueled pervert capturing a beautiful girl, only to strip her and realize she was actually a Thai ladyboy—utterly frustrating and maddening.
“Cursed luck, just not my day!”
Sun Fei had no choice but to temporarily place these two unidentified green items in his backpack. Since he couldn’t use them, he’d sell them to Acarra for Gold Coins later.
After packing everything up, Sun Fei activated a Town Portal Scroll.
He planned to return to the Rogue Encampment, find nun Acarra to complete the quest and claim his reward. He also wanted to ask how and why he had ended up in this bewildering world.
This question had been troubling him for a long time.
However, right at that moment, a sudden change occurred—
“Player Sun Fei, please note: You have reached the daily playtime limit. Countdown to exit the game world begins… 3… 2… 1, closing game…”
That mysterious, cold voice suddenly sounded again in Sun Fei’s mind.
