“Captain, it’s almost the end of our shift. Why are we still doing an inspection here?”
A young officer yawned and complained with some dissatisfaction.
“What can we do? Are we supposed to ignore the orders from above?”
The captain was also in a bad mood. He had been ready to go home, with his wife and children waiting for him to have dinner. He did not expect a sudden call from headquarters that sent him here to check the scene.
“Who reported the case?”
Another officer looked around the room curiously. After a day had passed, the previously overturned and messy sofa had been put back in place. There was basically nothing unusual to see.
“It was Dong Yueming, the boss of Fuheng Group. He said he was attacked by a thug in this hotel room. He is still in the hospital getting checked.”
The captain sighed. They were just small-time police officers and could not afford to offend these big bosses. As soon as Dong Yueming reported the case, the higher-ups immediately ordered a strict investigation.
They checked everywhere, but found no valuable clues. That day, Lin Mu used the Autumn Swan Sword. Also, his martial arts were far superior to those thugs. He ended the fight instantly, so there were no signs of a struggle.
“Hey? Captain, come over here! There’s a bullet hole here. It’s really strange!”
At that moment, an officer noticed something unusual during his inspection and hurriedly called the captain over.

They dug out the bullets from all the holes and placed them on a tray. The captain put on rubber gloves. After comparing them several times, he assembled three bullet tips on the tray.
“What is going on here?”
The young officers looked at each other. They did not understand why the bullets were split in half. The cut surfaces were incredibly smooth, as if made by a machine.
“Incredible! This is a remarkable expert!”
The captain stared at the three bullets and mumbled in amazement.
“What, what? Captain, what expert are you talking about?”
An officer next to him immediately pressed for details.
“When the higher-ups called with the orders, they said a young man attacked Dong Yueming. According to Dong Yueming’s account, the young man seemed to be holding a soft weapon that looked like a sword.”
The captain let out a breath and took off his rubber gloves. “If that young man really had a sword, think about it. Why would these bullets be cut in half?”
The officers frowned slightly. After thinking for a moment, they looked at the captain in surprise.
“No way?! Captain, are you saying these bullets were cut in half by someone with a sword?”
“That’s too exaggerated! How could anyone cut a bullet with a sword?!”
“Right! Captain, you’re overthinking it.”
The officers all expressed disbelief. It was just too unreal. Everyone knew how fast bullets traveled. How could a sword move faster than a bullet?
“You guys! You’re still too young. There are many things you don’t know yet. As you work on more cases over time, you’ll gradually understand. Many cases start with us, but then they just end mysteriously without any resolution.”
The captain shook his head. “It’s because some cases are beyond our ability to handle. They get handed over to more capable people. I’ve encountered this kind of thing several times already. This world isn’t as simple as you think!”
The officers glanced at each other. They still had doubts and disbelief on their faces. After all, this was like someone telling you they saw an alien with their own eyes. If you hadn’t seen it yourself, you wouldn’t easily believe it.
“Captain, tell us about those cases.”
An officer whispered.
“I don’t actually know much about those cases. Back then, I was just following my captain on investigations. We just found some unusual circumstances, and then the cases were transferred out. We weren’t responsible for what happened after that.”
The captain smiled slightly, as if remembering those days of working on cases. For a moment, he felt a bit emotional.
“Just give us a general idea, Captain!”
Another officer moved closer.
“You guys, having too much curiosity isn’t a good thing. The case I remember most clearly was a burglary. Theft is usually a minor matter, but that time it caused a huge stir throughout the city.”
“Because that thief was extremely skilled. He only stole from rich and powerful families. No matter where you hid your valuables, he could get them. He was very capable and left almost no evidence.”

The captain nodded. “After we reported this, the case was handed over to others.”
“Captain, who do these cases get handed over to in the end?”
The officers were all curious. The people who could handle these cases must be remarkable figures. Otherwise, how could they deal with such powerful criminals?
“I don’t know. Maybe some secret departments. Our rank isn’t high enough to know about these things.”
The captain shook his head. “But those people are truly impressive. Once, after we handed over case materials, I walked the person who came to collect them to the door. I saw that person lift a car with one hand.”
“What?!”
“How is that possible?”
The officers’ eyes widened. What did it mean to lift a car with one hand?
Even an ordinary family car weighed at least a ton. Didn’t that mean this person had the strength of over a ton in one arm?
“A child’s toy rolled under the car. The kid lay down and reached under to get it. That person happened to pass by, saw the situation, and casually lifted the whole car so the child could easily retrieve the toy.”
The captain shrugged. For that person, it was probably just a trivial effort.
“These people are incredible. You probably can’t reach that level just by training, right?”
One of them asked in wonder.
“Definitely not. If training alone could give you that kind of power, experts would be everywhere. Could they be people with martial arts?”
“Martial arts? You mean like in martial arts novels?”

The captain laughed heartily and spoke lightly.

The captain teased the young officers, a smile appearing on his face. These young men were so much like he was back in the day. Now that he was older, it was finally his turn to lead them.
“Alright, go get the hotel’s surveillance footage from that night. When someone comes to take over the case, we’ll hand it all over to them. Since we’re already here, we might as well save them some trouble.”
After giving instructions, they examined the scene a bit more. Finding no other valuable information, they left the room. Before going, they told the hotel manager to temporarily stop renovations and keep that room unchanged.
The hotel manager looked puzzled, but since it was a police investigation, he did not ask too many questions. The hotel had plenty of rooms anyway; one less didn’t matter.
“Sir, we’re back.”
Back at the police station, the captain took the organized documents and went to his superior’s office.
“Back so soon?”
The superior looked up from his paperwork and glanced at the captain in surprise.
“Yeah. We probably won’t be taking this case. We’ll need those people to come over.”
The captain nodded and placed a small bag in front of his superior. Inside were three bullets, each split into two halves.
