Chapter 116: Pathetic
Chapter 116: Pathetic
Even when Lin Mu knocked him to the floor, a trace of a smile lingered on the leader’s lips. Only a flicker of fear flashed in his eyes. He clearly didn’t understand how Lin Mu could hit him without making contact.
“Scatter the formation! Break out!”
The remaining men, witnessing this scene, turned pale with fright. Astonishingly, none lunged forward to avenge their leader. One of them immediately shouted the command.
However, since Lin Mu had chased them here, there was no way he was letting them escape.
Just as the others panicked and tried to flee in all directions, Lin Mu flashed into the center of the group. He swung his hands in a wide circle, bringing his palms together. Instantly, a pale golden ball of Zhenqi manifested between his palms.
A low Dragon’s Roar sounded, and several indistinct dragon-shaped blasts of Zhenqi shot out, chasing after the fleeing figures.
In the blink of an eye, only one person was left running.
This person wasn’t skilled enough to dodge Lin Mu’s Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms; Lin Mu had deliberately spared him, not attacking him at all.
On this man, Lin Mu sensed an energy different from Zhenqi. Its strength wasn’t particularly high, but its strange properties intrigued him.
Recalling the bizarre bullet hole in Luo Bingyun’s office yesterday, Lin Mu suspected this energy might be what powered a superpower.
As for why he hadn’t sensed this energy on the assassin yesterday, Lin Mu guessed the assassin’s superpower was weaker; a single use might have drained all his energy, making it undetectable.
The sole survivor was a white man, around thirty years old, with pale blonde hair and deep blue eyes. His high nose twitched slightly as he fixed Lin Mu with a highly alert stare.
Like his companions, the white man gripped a Dagger. Though their training had usually erased such reactions, facing an Expert like Lin Mu, he couldn’t help but feel nervous.
After all, scattered before him were the fallen bodies of his comrades.
“Who… are you?” the white man spoke in broken, heavily accented Mandarin, but Lin Mu understood him.
“Who I am isn’t your concern,” Lin Mu replied, a faint smile playing on his lips. “But I know you have a superpower. I’ll give you a chance. Attack me with everything you’ve got.”
The white man’s face turned pale, shock evident in his eyes. He had no idea how Lin Mu saw through his secret. Even among his teammates, few knew about his superpower.
Under Lin Mu’s imposing presence, he slowly raised his Dagger.
These Daggers were incredibly sharp. In their hands, they could easily sever a person’s head. Yet, he hesitated.
Lin Mu watched the white man with interest, also holding back. While this man possessed a unique energy within him, compared to Lin Mu, it was utterly insignificant. He posed no threat.
When the gap in quantity was immense, even quality couldn’t bridge the difference.
Moreover, the purity of the energy within the white man couldn’t hold a candle to the Zhenqi inside Lin Mu. Whether in volume or quality, they were worlds apart. No wonder Lin Mu wasn’t worried.
Just then, Lin Mu narrowed his eyes slightly as he stared at the man. He sensed the special energy within the man begin to mobilize. This energy slowly concentrated onto the blade of the Dagger.
The blade, which originally shone with a bright, silvery gleam, faded to a dark red under the influence of this peculiar energy. Then the color shifted again, intensifying to a fiery crimson.
The next moment, flames erupted along the blade of the Dagger. Without any visible fuel, fire had materialized out of thin air.
Lin Mu’s interest deepened immediately.
This bore some resemblance to fire-element Cultivators, who could manipulate the fire spirits of heaven and earth, freely wielding powerful fire Magic Techniques.
However, the flames conjured by this white man clearly had nothing to do with Cultivation. For the moment, Lin Mu couldn’t fathom how he achieved this.
Facing his opponent using his superpower, Lin Mu remained still, simply watching calmly. When the flames on the blade grew denser, the white man finally sprang into action.
He let out a sharp cry and lunged towards Lin Mu. His speed was markedly faster than his fallen comrades, clearly boosted by the special energy, augmenting his physical strength significantly.
Lin Mu, however, felt a pang of disappointment. He’d hoped this superpower might offer some surprise, but this was underwhelming. The flames might intimidate ordinary people, but they held no weight in his eyes.
After all, having witnessed the fire-element Cultivation Masters of his time, the divine flames they commanded each possessed world-shattering, sea-boiling power.
This puny tongue of fire? Lin Mu wouldn’t even use it for a barbecue; the heat was too feeble.
“Is this all a superpower is? How disappointing.” Lin Mu shook his head with a sigh. He shifted his stance and materialized right before the white man. His right hand shot out, firmly grasping the burning Dagger.
Dominant Zhenqi surged between his fingers. In an instant, the flames on the dagger were completely extinguished.
Ignoring the stunned look on the white man’s face, Lin Mu stepped forward and drove a fist into his chest. The final man crumpled to the ground, instantly knocked unconscious.
Surveying the chaotic scene of bodies littering the floor, Lin Mu shook his head again. His form blurred, vanishing from the building as if he’d never been there at all.
Minutes later, Shen Zhuguang entered the house, flanked by members of the Special Police Forces. Staring at the bodies sprawling across the floor, the group exchanged bewildered glances.
After a careful inspection, one special police officer picked up a Dagger from the floor and handed it to Shen Zhuguang. The Dagger was badly warped, bearing the clear imprint of a hand.
“Take all of them into custody. Secure them tightly and report this incident to the higher-ups immediately! No mistakes!” Shen Zhuguang ordered sternly.
Shen Zhuguang touched the Dagger and felt it was surprisingly warm, almost as if it had been heated. A glimmer of doubt flickered in his eyes.
Lin Mu returned leisurely. Parking the car downstairs, he took the elevator back up to Luo Bingyun’s place.
The moment the door opened, Luo Bingyun rushed over, concern etched on her face. “How did it go, A-Mu? Are you alright?”
Seeing Luo Bingyun’s worried expression, Lin Mu smiled warmly. He scooped her up into his arms in one fluid motion, lifting her entire body off the ground with one arm underneath her.
Luo Bingyun let out a shy little gasp. Instinctively, her legs wrapped around Lin Mu’s waist, her eyes shimmering with emotion.
“Who do you think I am? Those minor players were never a match for me,” Lin Mu chuckled. His large hand playfully squeezed her ample curves.
“I know my A-Mu is the strongest! But… what about those people?” Luo Bingyun smiled, genuinely happy. Having the man she loved work so hard to protect her felt incredibly warming.
“I knocked them all out. Handed them over to the Municipal Bureau. They’ll deal with the questioning now, so we don’t need to worry,” Lin Mu explained. He walked over to the sofa, turning slightly as he sat down. Naturally, Luo Bingyun found herself straddling him. “However, today I met someone with a superpower.”
“Ah? A real person with superpowers?” Luo Bingyun exclaimed in genuine surprise. In the perception of ordinary people, individuals with superpowers were portrayed as immensely powerful and dangerously unpredictable.
From what she understood, such people often fit that dangerous profile. Yet, Lin Mu didn’t seem particularly fazed. He acted like it was no big deal.
“Yes. The person I met today had a superpower related to fire. He coated a Dagger in flames. Nothing incredibly special about that,” Lin Mu explained casually. “While I haven’t fully grasped the essence of this superpower yet, it seems more like a gift granted by nature itself. They just use it directly. Compared to our powers forged through Cultivation, it’s far inferior in every way.” He pondered for a moment before voicing his thoughts.
“The power cultivated… you mean Zhenqi?” Luo Bingyun looked at Lin Mu quizzically. Clearly, this ‘cultivated power’ he spoke of wasn’t just muscle gained from the Gym.
Lin Mu smiled without answering. He turned his gaze towards a cup on the coffee table. He willed his left hand, and a current of Zhenqi surged out, pulling the cup effortlessly into his palm from a distance.
Watching Luo Bingyun gasp, her mouth agape in awe, Lin Mu gently returned the cup to the table. He opened the fingers of his left hand, and a small, shimmering ball of transparent energy suddenly appeared hovering just above his palm.
Only someone with his immense control could manipulate Zhenqi with such effortless precision. After all, in the past, he had commanded Spiritual Power orders of magnitude stronger than this without ever faltering.
Under Luo Bingyun’s awestruck gaze, Lin Mu pressed his left palm gently against her lower abdomen. A stream of Zhenqi flowed steadily from him into her body. A wave of warmth spread instantly from her belly, rushing throughout her entire being.
Luo Bingyun trembled with pleasure, a low moan escaping her lips. She suddenly recalled the sensation. That day after nearly drowning, in her haze, she had felt a similar warm current inside her body.
Now she remembered clearly – Lin Mu had saved her. That lifesaving warmth was none other than the Zhenqi circulating within Lin Mu.
With this realization, Luo Bingyun threw her arms around Lin Mu’s neck, pulling him into a deep kiss. The passion ignited within Lin Mu instantly. With swift efficiency, he shed both their clothes.
Utterly consumed by desire, neither made a move towards the bedroom. Their fierce battle commenced right there on the sofa.
Meanwhile, Shen Zhuguang and his team had arrived back at the Municipal Bureau. The captured assailants were locked up individually in temporary holding cells.
Not long after, investigators armed with notebooks began arriving one by one to conduct interrogations.
As Lin Mu hadn’t intended to kill, the captives had mostly suffered severe injuries, nothing critical.
Among them, the white man possessing the superpower, his hands cuffed securely behind his back, subtly shifted his wrists. The stainless steel Handcuffs instantly began to glow a faint, ominous red.
