Chapter 110: Cat Playing with Mouse

The submachine gun bullets were not aimed at Lü Yang, but shot toward the group of special police officers behind him, forcing more than ten officers to take cover by the roadside.

Then another submachine gun spat out fire…

The back door of the police car opened. Under the cover of the submachine gun barrage, Zhou Ling rushed out and quickly made her way to Lü Yang’s side. “Where is this?” Lü Yang asked, then nervously sprang up, got out of bed, went to the window, and pulled back the curtain to look outside.

It was already dark, and the rain had started again. Thinking of Yi Ya trapped in the cement pit, exposed to the rain, Lü Yang’s heart tightened with worry.

He wondered if he had missed anything…

“This is the Jinda Hotel. Sister Zhou brought you here,” Liu Hui quickly explained to Lü Yang.

Lü Yang said nothing. He closed his eyes, opened the special link previously given to him by the Death Killer, and pulled up the ongoing Death Livestream footage.

A dim yellow light shone near the cement pit’s electric switch, allowing a faint view of Yi Ya sitting at the bottom of the pit. She was soaked all over, hugging her knees, and staring blankly ahead.

Seeing that she was safe for the moment, Lü Yang relaxed slightly, but his heart ached with pain. His anger and hatred for the Death Killer burned intensely. However, facing an opponent he couldn’t even see left him with nowhere to direct his rage.

“Don’t fall into my hands, don’t fall into my hands, or else…” Lü Yang clenched his fists until they cracked. The Death Killer had not initiated a connection with him at that moment. Until the Death Killer actively connected with him again, Lü Yang could not send a connection request and had no way of knowing what to do next.

“You’re awake?” It was Zhou Ling’s voice.

Lü Yang turned his head and glared coldly at Zhou Ling. Although she had saved him, her timing was just too coincidental.

“Don’t wonder why we happened to be there. I hid a tiny tracking device on the black jacket Director Liu gave you because I was worried you might get into trouble…” Zhou Ling explained, as if she knew exactly what Lü Yang was thinking.

Although Lü Yang was annoyed by Zhou Ling’s actions, the fact was that she had saved him this time, so he couldn’t say much about it.

Lü Yang always felt that Yi Ya’s kidnapping by the Death Killer was tied to Zhou Ling and Liu Yin, so he had never liked them. However, rescuing Yi Ya now required their help, so he had to hold back his feelings for the time being.

“Based on our assessment, we have identified several possible hiding spots for the Death Killer in and around Guishe City. Personnel have been dispatched to search these locations. If you cooperate with us, we can definitely bring the Death Killer to justice this time,” Zhou Ling went on to tell Lü Yang.

“What do you need me to do? Do you even know what kind of ‘thing’ you’re dealing with? Everything you’re doing is pointless. All the clues you have were intentionally left by him. Once he gets tired of this game, even your memories of him will be completely erased.” Lü Yang shook his head. The Death Killer not only possessed Mysterious Tools but was also an experienced Mystic Scholar. For ordinary police in the human world to think they could capture him was nothing but a daydream.

As the Eerie Computer’s alert sounded, Lü Yang quickly ended his conversation with Zhou Ling and went to the window, closing his eyes.

“Congratulations on passing the test. I’m growing more interested in you. I hope you won’t disappoint me later, or life would be too boring.” A human-shaped shadow appeared in Lü Yang’s vision, and then a three-dimensional image lit up beside it, showing a room that looked like a standard room in a high-end hotel. On the bed sat a girl who seemed confused.

It was Yi Ya!

“Since you passed the test, here’s a reward… Xiao Ya gets a break. She’s tough, much stronger than other girls. She’ll stay safe here for now. Whether you can rescue her later depends on your performance. If you don’t meet my expectations, she’ll be sent back to the electric pit. So, do your best.”

“Let me talk to her!” Lü Yang stared distrustfully at the three-dimensional image. For one, Yi Ya’s expression looked very strange, and secondly, he had just seen her in the cement pit—how could she suddenly be in a hotel room?

“Don’t try to bargain with me. It’s meaningless. This is just a game of cat playing with mouse. If I hadn’t suddenly taken an interest in you, she would be dead by now.” The human-shaped shadow replied to Lü Yang in a tone that suggested he held all the cards.

“What do you want me to do next? If you think you’re the cat and everyone else is a mouse, then don’t cause so much trouble in the real world and drag so many innocent people into this. If you have the guts, pick a place, and we’ll face off one-on-one! Let’s see who’s really the cat and who’s the mouse!” Though furious, Lü Yang controlled his emotions and provoked the Death Killer.

“Hahaha… thinking about a duel already? Do you think there’s any difference between that and suicide? Blindly showing off is foolish. I prefer smart opponents. Don’t disappoint me…” The Death Killer’s tone was calm, and this calmness only emphasized his arrogance.

“If you don’t even have the courage to face me, then keep hiding in the shadows like a coward!” Lü Yang’s tone also turned calm, with a hint of contempt.

“Do you think your words mean anything? If I reveal myself to you, it means the game is over. I really don’t want to kill you so soon.” The Death Killer responded to Lü Yang in a strangely casual manner.
