Chapter 10: New Task
Chapter 10: New Task
Lü Yang let out a loud “Ah!” and threw the Eerie Computer onto the ground. His strange action clearly startled a few passersby. They looked over from a distance, and when they saw that Lü Yang had thrown away an iPad, they couldn’t help but stop in their tracks.
Looking at the Eerie Computer that had fallen to the ground, Lü Yang, who had originally wondered whether he had really traveled to a Parallel World, suddenly realized the Eerie Computer truly existed. This sent a chill down his spine.
By the way, besides helping an old lady cross the street, he also received a Red Text Mission which said he had to break a cat’s leg.
This Task gave Lü Yang a headache. Breaking the leg of a perfectly fine cat—wasn’t that too cruel?
Lü Yang, who had always loved world peace and had a kind heart, simply couldn’t bring himself to do such a cruel thing to a cat.
But if he didn’t find a cat and break its leg before Zero Hour tonight, he would be erased from the world by that damn Eerie Computer at midnight, just like Yi Yi. How terrifying!
Sigh… This matter… Let’s wait until evening to think about it. In broad daylight, a grown man chasing after a cat to beat it would make people think he was crazy.
After a while, Lü Yang crouched down again and picked up the Eerie Computer from the ground. His earlier throw had left a noticeable crack on the Eerie Computer’s shell, and there was a lot of dirt and stains on it.
But when Lü Yang picked it up, the crack quietly disappeared, and the stains also drifted away on their own, making the whole Eerie Computer look as good as new again.
So eerie.
“New Supernatural Task released: one Blue Text Mission, one Yellow Text Mission. Please choose to view.”
Just as Lü Yang was staring blankly at the Eerie Computer, a message popped up in the middle of the screen.
“Damn! Didn’t I just finish one Supernatural Task? How come there are two more? Is this punishment for throwing it?” Lü Yang cursed inwardly. It seemed that completing Yi Yi’s Task was just extra. Now that the Eerie Computer was bound to Lü Yang, he had to take on his own Tasks too.
The problem was, judging from the pop-up message, the Supernatural Tasks weren’t something you applied for—they were forced upon you. No matter what Task it released, you could only view it, not choose it!
Lü Yang stared at the notification grumpily for a long time. Now that he was on this Eerie Computer’s pirate ship, there was no turning back.
Finally, Lü Yang had no choice but to check the Blue Text Mission first.
“Blue Text Mission: Must stop a gang rape crime before Zero Hour tonight. Task reward: 1 Eerie Point.”
“Oh my god! This Task is too perverted!” Lü Yang couldn’t help but shout. Stop a gang rape crime! Was gang rape that easy to come across? And even if it happened, could he, Lü Yang, just run into one before Zero Hour tonight?
This was big trouble!
Cursing aside, Lü Yang reluctantly checked the Yellow Text Mission next, and this time he was even more dumbfounded.
“Yellow Text Mission: Must rush into a Women’s Restroom before Zero Hour tonight and touch a young girl’s bare butt with your hand. Task reward: 1 Eerie Point.”
When Lü Yang saw this Yellow Text Mission, he nearly collapsed on the spot.
He had just called the previous Blue Text Mission perverted, but this Yellow Text Mission was clearly ten thousand times more perverted than the Blue one!
Could it be that this Eerie Computer was made in Japan? Otherwise, why would it come up with such perverted Tasks? Was it messing with him?
Damn it, I only threw you once, was this really necessary?
Rushing into a Women’s Restroom to harass women was something Lü Yang had always looked down upon. If he ever encountered someone like that, he would definitely rush over and drag them to the Police Station. Who would have thought that now he was being forced to carry out such an extremely perverted Task.
“I curse your ancestors!!!”
Lü Yang raised the Eerie Computer high above his head and smashed it forcefully onto the ground, then turned and walked away.
The Eerie Computer made a crisp cracking sound. Its shell shattered, revealing the circuit board inside, and it emitted a sizzling electric noise. A curious passerby came over, picked up the broken Eerie Computer from the ground, and gave Lü Yang a strange look.
Lü Yang walked away without looking back. But when a thought about whether the Eerie Computer was completely broken crossed his mind, something immediately appeared in his hand.
Looking at this unbreakable, indestructible, unforsakable Eerie Computer, Lü Yang felt like crying but had no tears.
The broken Eerie Computer in the hand of the passerby who had picked it up suddenly vanished without a trace. But his expression didn’t change at all. He straightened up and immediately continued walking in his original direction, as if nothing had just happened.
…
Back at Sister Mei’s Duplex Apartment, three tons of river sand had already been delivered and were piled up downstairs. The Porter who had agreed on the price hadn’t brought his companions over yet. After greeting Sister Mei, Lü Yang changed into his work clothes, kept his head down, picked up his stone cutter, and continued cutting grooves in the wall.
He still hadn’t figured out the Task of breaking a cat’s leg, and now, because he had randomly thrown the Eerie Computer, he ended up with two such difficult new Tasks. If he wasn’t careful, he might really be erased tonight.
Even if he was lucky enough to complete these Tasks, if all future Tasks were this perverted, Lü Yang felt he would eventually be tormented into a super perverted lunatic by the Eerie Computer.
If he didn’t complete the Tasks, what would happen to Yi Yi?
Thinking of Yi Yi, Lü Yang thought of Yi Ya. Was she really his girlfriend now? He already felt somewhat unworthy of her. If she found out he was carrying out those perverted Tasks from the Eerie Computer, she would definitely look down on him to death.
And he couldn’t even explain himself.
Even if he tried, who would believe him!?
I don’t want to live anymore!
…
If he didn’t have a girlfriend like Yi Ya, Lü Yang wouldn’t feel any inferiority about his current job. When he was with Yi Yi, Lü Yang even felt his skills were good and he could earn money well.
But now, covered in dust and grime, Lü Yang suddenly felt a bit inferior. If Yi Ya was his girlfriend, the money he earned now was really too little and pitiful. Not to mention letting her live the life she dreamed of, even just letting her take a taxi every day or eat at cafes and Western Restaurants would be a stretch. If he wanted to buy her a few decent pieces of clothing and makeup, he probably couldn’t manage without using a credit card.
Lü Yang sighed deeply for no reason. He thought he should face reality and not hope for any future with Yi Ya. What he should do now was find a way to get Yi Yi back, then watch together with Yi Yi as Yi Ya pursued her happiness and the life she wanted, doing his best to protect her from harm or minimize it along the way.
…
“Why haven’t those Porters come yet?” Sister Mei walked over and muttered anxiously when Lü Yang went to the balcony to catch his breath.
“You should call and urge the boss lady again. If they deliver too late, it might be troublesome. I think it might rain tonight,” Lü Yang said, looking at the gloomy sky.
“I’ve already urged her several times, but she can’t do much about those Porters either,” Sister Mei shook her head.
“Maybe the price you offered isn’t high enough, so they’re unhappy…” Lü Yang guessed. In recent years, there were fewer and fewer Porters on the streets, labor costs kept rising, and especially this kind of manual labor was something few people were willing to do anymore.
