Volume 2 Chapter 50: Laura’s Resentment

“What… is this thing?”

“It can talk!” The crowd surrounding Laura grew restless. The phenomenon of a silver werewolf speaking human language shocked and terrified these ordinary townspeople.

“Our very existence is a sin…” Laura muttered to herself. Her crimson eyes showed a hint of confusion, but she quickly regained her composure. She bared her teeth at Qin Lun and roared, “You’re lying! Princess Elizabeth has existed for over three hundred years. If not for the sudden outbreak of the epidemic disease and your appearance, we would have continued coexisting with humans!”

“Miss Laura, do you remember what you once told me? There are no coincidences, only inevitabilities. An ending that is destined to happen will not change because of our will.” Qin Lun shook his head calmly.

“Princess Elizabeth’s strength is admirable. However, it was only a matter of time before the Albert Family produced someone selfish like Stephen. Even you have been secretly developing your own descendants, haven’t you?”

“I… I just didn’t want to see old Jason, who served the family his whole life, die in such a miserable way!” Laura’s shoulders trembled as she clenched her sharp claws.

“Please do not misunderstand, I am not blaming you!” Qin Lun sighed, looking at Laura with an unreadable expression. A strange light flashed in his eyes.

“Princess Elizabeth has lived for over three hundred years. As another Undying One, do you think she knew nothing about Witch Mary infiltrating the Albert Family? Do you think she was completely unaware of you secretly developing descendants? Do you think an elder who watched you grow up and was responsible for teaching you couldn’t see through Stephen’s little tricks?”

“She knew everything… That’s impossible!” The silver werewolf looked as if struck hard. Laura staggered back two steps. “If that’s the case, why didn’t she stop us?”

“Miss Laura, have you ever thought about this? Over three hundred years, the Albert Family should have produced hundreds or even thousands of non-human creatures. Yet, only a few dozen werewolves and vampires appeared in the Banquet Hall. Where did all the other non-human creatures go? Don’t tell me they all died in battle against the Witch Maiar!”

“You mean…” The silver werewolf widened its wolf-like eyes. The thought that surfaced in its mind made it nauseous.

“Heh, you guessed right. Those excess non-human creatures were naturally ‘cleaned up’ by Princess Elizabeth!” Qin Lun grinned with a cold smile. “For over three hundred years, Princess Elizabeth has been both the creator of the Albert Family and its gravedigger! However, a rubber band stretched to its limit will eventually snap. Now, the rubber band in Princess Elizabeth’s heart has finally broken!

In my opinion, this incident is just a joint test by Princess Elizabeth for both you and humans… She no longer wants to be the executioner who kills the Albert descendants. She hopes humans can accept the Undying Ones of the Albert Family! But so far, this test that has cost countless lives has clearly fail…”

“Shut up! I don’t believe you!” The silver fur on Laura’s body stood on end. She let out a long howl and lunged at Qin Lun. “You have already destroyed the Albert Family. I won’t allow you to slander Princess Elizabeth any further!”

“Fire! Kill it!” Watching the silver figure moving swiftly like lightning, Totti and a few other town leaders paled slightly. They immediately ordered the Militia gunslingers to shoot the silver werewolf.

“Bang! Bang! Bang!” The Militia members had just exited the Main Keep. Most stood on the steps by the entrance, so the gunpowder in their firearms was not heavily affected by the rain yet. Following the sharp shouts of Totti and the town leaders, pungent white gun smoke billowed up.

“Boom!” A bright flash of lightning lit up the sky above Albert Castle. The storm instantly blew away the gun smoke lingering at the entrance.

Qin Lun focused his gaze and saw over a dozen spots of blood bloom on the silver werewolf’s body. The contrast of white and red was like crimson flowers blooming wildly on a snowy plain, giving off an eerie sense of beauty.

“Is it dead?” A trace of relief appeared on the townspeople’s faces.

“No, it’s not dead yet!” Qin Lun’s heart sank after checking the unresponsive Death Notice. He shouted loudly. Killing the second or third-generation werewolves and vampires transformed from the castle servants had triggered significant prompts. Laura’s death as the primal werewolf would not possibly give no prompt at all.

As if to confirm Qin Lun’s words, to the townspeople’s astonishment, the silver werewolf riddled with bullet holes sprang up from the ground. The bullet holes on its body healed rapidly at a visible rate. Flattened brass bullets were squeezed out of the wounds one by one, falling onto the gravel path in front of the Main Keep with clear, tinkling sounds like pearls falling on a jade plate.

“It’s a monster!” The circle surrounding the werewolf slowly retreated. Uncontrollable fear showed on the townspeople’s faces.

“Wellington Stan!” The silver werewolf fixed its gaze on Qin Lun among the crowd and roared, lunging towards him.

The truth is always the most hated. A touch of bitterness rose in Qin Lun’s heart. The inexperienced Serial Killer learned another lesson. He finally felt he had said too much.

“Drop the guns! Switch to knives! Use ropes to tie it up!” A middle-aged town leader beside Saint Healer Totti shouted sternly. The nearby Militia members snapped out of their daze, dropping their now useless long guns and drawing hunting knives from their waists. Some recovered townspeople around also started taking ropes from their bodies.

“Roar!” Laura extended sharp, blade-like nails from her furry wolf paws. With just a light sweep, two townspeople blocking Qin Lun were sent flying like ragged sacks.

One had three gashes torn open on his chest. His sturdy breastbone was split open like tofu, revealing his vigorously beating heart. The other had his head thrown back, his throat spraying hot blood like a water gun, making gurgling sounds. It was clear he wouldn’t survive.

“I…” Laura, splattered with human blood, seemed to sober up a little. She held up her arms and froze in place. Although she had been a werewolf and survived for decades, this was the first time she had actually killed a person.

This kind of strength and speed… Qin Lun’s pupils contracted. He grabbed Saint Healer Totti’s arm and pulled him, running towards the densely packed part of the crowd.

“Doctor Stan, we…” The Saint Healer was dazed. He still couldn’t quite believe that this terrifying creature before him was the beautiful and pure Miss Laura of the Albert Family.

“She’s not someone we can handle. Leave it to the town’s Militia and Hunters!” Qin Lun curled his lip, not stopping his steps for a moment.

“Use the ropes to lasso it!” Regarding the retreat of Totti and Qin Lun, the town leaders from several small towns didn’t mind. Having two doctors not participating in the fight meant two less burdens for them. Wasn’t that just fine?

“Whoosh!” Several rope loops descended from the air, tightly lassoing the upper body of the werewolf and dragging it to the ground. Even though the heavy rain was pouring down, the townspeople accustomed to hunting in the mountains and forests still had excellent aim.

“Roar!” Laura finally awoke from the panic of her first kill. The instinct for survival began to grow. She abruptly sat up from the ground, instead pulling several townspeople holding the ropes down.

“Everyone, charge together!” A loud roar erupted from the crowd. Many townspeople began to unite, simultaneously pulling on the loosened rope loops.

It must be said, these commoners of the Odia Region were quite tough, fundamentally different from residents of big cities. Even facing a non-human creature like a werewolf for the first time, they could still restrain their fear instead of scattering and fleeing. Perhaps this was the fierce custom indirectly cultivated by the Odia Demon Hunters.

The silver werewolf’s beautiful fur turned completely grimy from rolling on the ground. Mud, wet from the rain, clung stickily to its body. Laura did not wait passively for death. Her sharp claws sliced through the rope loops like blades.

However, the townspeople had clearly considered this possibility. Each time a rope loop was shed, more loops fell to replace it. The Militia members did not waste the townspeople’s efforts either. Hunting knives fell upon the silver werewolf like rain.

Qin Lun watched the struggling silver werewolf with pity. He initially thought she would cause significant casualties among the townspeople. He didn’t expect Laura to panic due to her first kill, leading to this predicament. No matter how strong a werewolf’s recovery power is, it cannot withstand this kind of swarm tactic. Once it loses mobility, the outcome is predictable.

However, at that moment, shrill shrieks suddenly came from above the townspeople. A gust of wind pressed down like a mountain. Several swift, shadowy figures swooped down from the sky. Townspeople pulling the ropes screamed and fell to the ground one after another.

“Stephen!” Qin Lun’s expression changed slightly. He looked up at the sky. The primal Vampire had returned with several other vampires, tearing a gap in the encirclement formed by the townspeople.

“Roar!” Laura’s spirit was lifted. With her restraints slightly loosened, she let out a furious roar. Sweeping her arms, she forced back the surrounding Militia members, even gutting several of them who collapsed on the ground.

“Laura, let’s go!” Stephen traced an elegant arc in the air, urgently calling out to the werewolf. “Several Demon Hunters are coming down from upstairs. Don’t linger any longer!”

“No!” The silver werewolf turned its head, scanning around. Its gaze passed through the crowd and fell upon Qin Lun. Hatred burned in its eyes like flames.

“Is he… that Doctor Stan?” Stephen followed Laura’s gaze, fixed on Qin Lun, and grinned, revealing two sharp fangs. “Then hurry up! I’ll assist you!”

The stare from the two Undying Ones made Qin Lun’s expression change. He turned his head to estimate the distance between the Main Keep entrance and himself. The Dagger of Sin slipped from his sleeve into his palm. The distance was too far. With the speed of the werewolf and vampire, he had no time to run into the hall.

“Wellington Stan!” Laura pushed off with her feet. Her agile body cut through the heavy curtain of rain, lunging towards Qin Lun like lightning.

At the same time, Stephen in the air let out a sharp shriek. Flapping his wings, he led the other vampires to pounce on the Militia members shielding Qin Lun.
