Chapter 499: Fate
Chapter 499: Fate
“Is it really that simple?”
Zuo Meng quickly learned the prison-break method from Huang and Peng Zu. The process involved two steps: splitting and reassembling. First, they fragmented their souls into threads that slowly seeped through stone cracks over countless epochs. Then they developed two cultivation methods to reconstruct their dispersed souls.
This held no value for Zuo Meng since the cultivation methods only worked under Dream Realm’s rules.
The final stage involved soul division. Essentially, these two guys only created external avatars while their true bodies remained imprisoned.
“You’re free.”
As Creator, Zuo Meng kept his promise. The Dream Realm had grown beyond its former limitations – though these guys were once dangerous, their long imprisonment had weakened them. Countless in the Dream Realm could now subdue them.
After dismissing them, Zuo Meng closed his eyes and returned his consciousness to the ancient castle beyond the Dream Realm.
“One hundred billion two hundred twenty million failed attempts…”
Replicating their memories gave Zuo Meng valuable data. He sat at the room’s center and extended a finger. A wisp of energy pierced the cage’s confinement, drifting down toward the Great World.
…
Midnight.
27th floor, Jin Mao Tower.
Wang Xiaokai in white shirt hammered his keyboard in the internet company. As project staff, he worked later as deadlines approached. While others joked about 996 work hours, he considered 996 a blessing since joining this project – 007 shifts weren’t even aspirational!
Zzzt!
Electrical buzzing made lights flicker. The screen went black mid-keystroke.
“Power cut! I hadn’t saved!”
He clawed at his thinning hair. One more hour’s work would’ve caught the company’s 2AM free taxi – part of their “considerate” overtime package with late-night snacks and performance points.
Power returned after ten seconds.
The auto-saved file appeared. Only ten minutes lost. As Wang Xiaokai resumed work, his mouse moved independently, opening an old colleague’s forgotten folder.
Ding!
A pop-up displayed: “Do you want to know life’s meaning?”
“Ancient meme!” Wang Xiaokai snorted. During the infinite flow trend, he’d fantasized about such scenarios but later realized he’d die within three chapters.
“Care about next month’s performance, not life’s meaning.” The mouse normalized. He closed the window, but a forum page appeared – Supernatural Forum.
“Damn world! New Fate manifested…”
The red headline triggered Wang Xiaokai’s memory. Two weeks ago, his e-bike stalled at 1AM. A black cat watched motionless from trash cans until a homeless man in black appeared, grabbed it, and warned: “Avoid this road after ten.”
Wind carried fragments: ‘Fate…79…’
Office lights suddenly died.
Thuds echoed from dark corridors. Wang Xiaokai stood – all coworkers had left hours ago.
CRASH!
Three silhouettes shattered the glass door, tumbling inside.
